| Separation Anxiety? Keep in mind that I have only had Bailey home for a couple days, and I realize this is probably still a transition time for her from her busy breeder's house (with 2 human kids, 3 siblings, and 5 adult dogs) to my house where it's just her, me, and the cat (who runs away from Bailey ^_^). I am starting to fear that I am spoiling her too much by being with her all the time. At night she's crated, and in the day she's either gated into the kitchen, or in my lap in the living room. If I leave her in the kitchen for 5 minutes to do something upstairs, she whines. If I go in the living room without her she whines. She's been biting a lot so if I bring her in the living room with me and she keeps biting my hands or clothes, I put her in the kitchen as kind of a time out. A minute ago I was in the living room and she was in the kitchen because she was still biting. She started doing this loud howl. I don't want her to start that kind of thing because my neighbors would hate me when I go back to work and have to leave her for 8 hours. Even when I'm in the same area as her it can be bad. I sit down, she immediately climbs into my lap (which I think is oh so cute, but not sure it's healthy in the long run). If I'm standing she'll sit on my feet. And the worst thing she has just started is biting the backs of my jeans when I walk. It's dangerous because it makes it hard not to step on her or drag her. I planned to go to Disneyland this week but I'm afraid what she might do when I'm gone. Any help? Should I be worried or is she just adjusting?

Donating YT 30K Club Member | When I bring a new puppy home even though I am home most of the time, I go out several times for short periods to get them use to me coming and going. She should settle in pretty soon. As hard as it is try not to give her undivided attention or she will quickly expect it. Hopefully some other will post with suggestions too.

| Thanks. One more thing that I forgot to mention is that she has gotten a little better since I first got her home. At first if she fell asleep on me and I put her down she would still get up and chase me. Now if she's sleeping on me I can usually put her on a blanket or in her crate and she'll sleep there with no problem. Even after she wakes up she hasn't started whining from the crate. She stays in there quietly. At night it's a different story and she whine for a minute or two each time I take her to the potty and then put her back in the crate.

| Any more suggestions? She is really making me nervous. Today I tried to leave for 2 hours to go shopping, but she was sleeping when I left and still there when I came back. I don't think she ever knew I was gone! But she still flips out when I put her gated in the kitchen. I do it when I need to do something, or for "time out" when she's play biting. When she's it there alone she cries and cries and even starts to howl. She gets very loud. A second ago she got herself so worked up she choked/almost threw up a little.

| I have the same problem with my yorkie. He is 6 months old and i've had him for about a month and a half. He whines whenever he's alone, even if he's gated in the other room for 5 minutes. If we're in the same room as him and get up to walk to another room he will drop whatever he's doing and be right behind me jumping and biting on the back of my pants. Even if he's napping on his pillow, if he hears someone move he wakes up IMMEDIATELY. I definitely need some help with this! What has worked with you? |
