| Dry Food and Constipation? My 10-week old Yorkie is having problems having a bowel movement this morning. I ran to the store and got some canned pumpkin and put a tablespoon of it in a bowl for him and am making sure that he has plenty of water available all day. What else can I do? He's been on dry puppy food for the past week. Should I pick up some canned food for him? Could it be the dry food that is causing problems? Any ideas??? I feel badly for him. He acts uncomfortable, but not in like he's in pain. He just keeps trying to go. |

| Dry food in itself shouldn't cause that but maybe one of the ingredients doesn't agree with him. They also need to drink more when they are on dry and maybe he isn't dirnking enough. If the canned pumpkin doesn't work, he should see the vet. You might want to slowly transition to another food. Canned food is fine if that's what you want to use. Whatever you feed, his teeth need to be brushed.

| Seasoned yorkie owners correct me if I'm wrong, but if I see Apple is having some really firm stools, I'll give her two or three organic spinach leaves, and that seems to get things moving, nicely...The vet gave me metamucil to use, but I'm one of those ppl that doesn't even take an aspirin, so I'm all about natural solutions....I did use the matamucil, when Apple ate a maybelline eyebrow pencil (That scared the dowaddlysquat out of me!!!) and I divided the 1/2 tsp. dose, she told me to put on her food, into 1/8 tsp. 4 x a day.... |
