| Changing to Adult Food - WHEN?? I have a question for all of you ... my vet today told me that I should change my puppy, who will be 7 months old in a week, from puppy food to adult food right after he's neutered. I always thought you make the change at 12 months but she said it should be after he's neutered which will be only 7 months since they tend to gain weight after neutering. My question is, I am about to run out of his puppy food. Do you think I should just start changing him into adult food (though his surgery isn't for another week and a half)? This way I don't have to get a whole new 6 pound bag and use only 1/7th of it then have to switch foods. Or should I just go ahead and buy a new bag of puppy food - use it up (he'll be 10 months - 3 months after surgery - by the time I use it up) and then switch to adult food at 10 months??? Please advise!!!! |

| Personally, I would get him the puppy food, and switch him at 10mo. He would be fine switching right now, though. If you do get the puppy food, there's no reason to use 1/7 of it and switch to adult. Puppy food will not hurt him, even as an adult. Hope that helps. |

| Do you think the puppy food would make him fat after neutering since the nature of puppy food is just much higher in fat content? My friends Yorkie gained a lot of weight after neutering and he was a picky eater ... |

| I feed Baxter Royal Canin, and the Yorkshire Terrier one they have is only for 10 months and over. So, I know personally I am waiting until Baxter is 10 months before I switch him over to adult food.

| What is the main different between puppy and adult food? After this last bag of food (which should last night another month) I was considering switching to adult food, since he always nibbles on the older dogs adult food and seems to like it better anyways... but he'll be 6 months then. Is that too early? He's gotta be 10 pounds by now. Last vet visit he was 8.7.

| It shouldn't make him fat. What puppy food are you feeding him? |

| You are suppose to switch to adult food once your puppy has reached 80-90% of their anticipated adult weight.

| Wellness is a good food, and he will be just fine on it for however long you want to keep him on it. When you do switch him, I'd recommend CORE. |
