| Everytime he scratches his face he cries everytime Harley scratches his face with his back leg he whines. it doesn't stop him from doing it but he just continues to whine. could he have an ear infection? he doesn't seem to be bothered at any other time. it is just weird, has anyone experienced this.

| Sorry, I don't have any answers for you. Try posting in the sick/emergency section, though. You might get more answers there.

| It could be his ear, or even a dental problem-- sometimes dogs will paw at their face if they have pain in a tooth or their gums.

♥ Catherine My Love ♥ Donating Member | I'd have to agree. Check to see if the ear looks red or inflammed and check the teeth and gums for inflammation or discoloration. There also could be a scratch or splinter or some other injury to that side of the face - check under the hair for any signs of inflammation. And, make an appointment to see the vet. : )

| My first thought would be a possible ear or tooth issue, too. But is it a whine like he is hurting or a whine like, ohhhh that feels sooo good. I've had dogs that sometimes when they scratch they'll sort of whine/sigh/groan because it apparently feels good to just scratch.

| I hadn't thought of the teeth, I looked at his gums and they look fine, he is also eating well. I checked his ears and nothing stands out, no redness, odor etc. It doesn't seem to be a sound of pleasure but not real pain either. just whining. We have had him a month and we are still getting to know his vocal cues (he is a lot more vocal than our first one). I will take him to the vet and see what is going on. It seems something is bothering him but I just don't know what it might be. thanks for the advice

Donating YT 10K Club Member | You may see dark "gunk" if you swab his ears, but the mites themselves are microscopic.
