Eye Gunk/Booger Remedy?? Hi All... I know there have been a few threads about getting rid of eye gunk but wanted to see if anyone had any recent discoveries and successful ones. I remove Snickers eye gunk every other day. He lets me since I am super gentle but I wish they would just stop. I like natural remedies, but am willing to try commercial 1's I guess. I have tried distilled water, no luck. I have bought apple cider vinegar and am going to try it. Has anyone used ACV w/ success?? How do you feed it?? Any input would help. Snickers is on EVO Chicken with some canned mixed in the morning (duck, venison, or chicken), has NB Venison/Spotato grainfree biscuits & Spotato chews as snacks, Wellness Pure Venison jerky as treats (potty) and gets apples/bananas for afternoon snack. Snickers will be 8 months old this week and is 3.3lbs. Snick has had eye gunk since the day we brought him home at 8 weeks old. THANKS for any input!! |
I would like to know this too. I have been cleaning Tobie's eyes every day. The next day it looks like I haven't cleaned them ever. I know it's no fun for him for me trying to clean them every day even though I try to be gentle. |
My Harry boy had a brownish discharge for a few days I took him to my regular vet, he put him in medicated eyedrops for 7 days and when I went back he told me that he did not had an infection just to clean his eyes with warm water every morning.., I took him to my holistic vet and she recomended a product called "Calm Eyes" I been using it now for a few weeks and his eyes look great, even my family noticed the change on his eyes. I got it at this site.. Calm Coat I love their products now, I ordered the calm eyes, calm ears and calm coat..:D. I highly recomend it.. and NO I am not affiliated in any way with them, just a very satisfied customer..:p hugs, cArmen in nj |
Thank you...I think I might try the Calm Eyes. I tried giving Snickers Apple Cider Vinegar from a spoon and he always tries everything so he licked up a few gulps and then backed away looking at me, and darted off. He would not come near me until finally I got a treat for him...hahaha must have tasted horrid. The smell is bad enough!! Any other suggestions are HIGHLY appreciated!! |
LOL, my Harry boy is the finickiest of eaters, the smell alone of the cider vinegar makes him run,, so with the calm eyes is super easy, just squirt some in a cotton round and clean his eyes every morning and night for the first two weeks, I am now in the begining of the fourth weeks and down to once a day in the morning, as soon as is no more discharge I can just clean his eyes a couple of times a week, according to my holistic vet..I started my two girls on it too, and their eyes should stay nice and clear.. hugs, cArmen in nj |

I use baby wipes ( unscented ) daily, Thanks carmen :) im excited to use this and see how it works ;) |
I am sure it will work for you too.. I used calm Ears for the first time yesterday.. and it smells so good, I love natural remedies that work.. I did not have any problems with their ears but I like to clean them every two weeks just to keep them clean. If anyone is having problems with ears and the vet has run out of options, I recomend they try calm ears and see.. hugs, Carmen in nj |
Thanks so much for the suggestion... I am going to order some calm eyes. Violet has the grossest eye gunk, and it feels like a full time job keeping her eyes clean! :) |

Waiting for a reply to see how littlewhip likes the product.....I need a remedy too:D |
Okay so I use to clean Cookies eyes with water and cotton and it would take the gunk away but leave the the tear stains so I decided to try Calm Eyes. I just got my order of Calm Eyes yesterday and I cleaned Cookies eyes immediately and I noticed the difference right away. Her whole eye area was looking cleaner right away and by night time when I was gonna clean her eyes again it still looked cleaner then the usual, the tear stains was mostly gone. I love this stuff:thumbup::thumbup: |
due to the good reviews of calm eyes, i ordered some yesterday (plus the website was having a 20% off this product sale - YAY!) ... it already shipped today and i cannot wait to try it :D thanks for the rec everyone! |

i am going to place an order for my charlie. His eye boogers are getting worse and worse it each. I don't know what to do anymore. |
Does this product help prevent the tear stains, or eliminate the already stained hair? |
what is the website again? I can't seem to find it. |
I use ProEye wipes from petedge. They work good. |
Interesting thread, Joey had watery eyes as a pup, when I switched to distilled water, his eyes cleared up, and every now and again I would try regular water and the tearing returned, and I'd switch back and they would clear up. Finally he outgrew the problem, and he drinks regular water with no tearing. With the tearing he experienced there was no gunk, or brown stuff or what you might call boogers, it was just wet in that area. Now two years, have passed, and no tearing, no boogers nothing. I finally decide to try another food, because Joey's food, Royal Canin, has high corn content, and people convinced me potatoes are better. I switched to Blue Wilderness, I went slowly, and after two days he was only eating half and half, but I noticed his eyes were really bad, not just watering but gunky, so much gunk I had to take a damp cloth to get it out. This continued, for a week until I decided to stop the new food. His eyes looked better the next day, there was no gunk, but they are watery and haven't completely dried up. Now I'm mad at myself for switching the food, I don't know if there is a correlation between the new food and the gunk since the eyes haven't cleared completely. |
Going to give this a try also....just ordered some too. |
I'm gonna give this a try - thanks for the tip!! |

It is also said to be good for humans as well and has lots of healing properties. I have started using it today also. You can find the info about it and other home remedies on earthclinic.com. For tear staining you can use ditilled water.I noticed they were not tearing in 2 days.I used the walmart brand for babies. And its cheap with no chemicals. Hope this helps:) |

carmen, i could kiss you right now LOL :D i used this two nights so far (since i just got it wednesday) ... well the day after i used it the first time, i could actually SEE a difference in miss buffey and bentleys eye areas!!! bentley has pretty bad tear stains and buffey messes with her hair so much lately, it is poking in her eyes and she is getting tear stains too  i know it will take a while to clear up bentleys stains but there is already a marked improvement and i am thrilled! i am just trying to figure out the best way to apply it...i used a cotton ball the first night but feel it wasted too much product...might get those cosmetic cotton rounds at the drugstore this weekend thanks so much for the rec - so far we LOVE this product :) i could even tell bentley had less eye boogers yesterday! |
