| Wellness vs Solid Gold?? and other questions It's taken me a while to whittle my food choices down and I am left with these two...their puppy foods of course. Their first 5 ingredients are: Wellness Just For Puppy deboned chicken, chicken meal, oatmeal, ground barley and salmon meal Solid Gold Hundchen Flocken Puppy lamb, lamb meal, ocean fish meal, brown rice, cracked barley I just don't know which is better! They are only a few dollars different in price so that is not an issue, I just cannot decide between the two! Also, he is coming to me already on Iams puppy chow...how long should I wait to start slowly adding the new (better) food? I've heard you can start on day one/two and also that you should wait a few weeks for him to get used to his new home so changing food doesn't add stress. About free-feeding. I know I don't want to free feed, at least until potty training is complete, but should I at first, just to see how much he will eat? Or should I start him on a meal schedule when he first comes home? Sorry for so many questions and thank you!!!

| Prefer wellness I've been feeding my nine month old female Wellness Puppy sine about the second week that we brought her home back in July. The breeder was feeding Purina Puppy Chow and I slowly started mixing in some Wellness until I got to 100% Wellness in a two week period and it work out fine with no digestion problems. I already bought a bag of Wellness adult food for small dogs and will start the same process soon. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | They are both good. The Wellness also contains some probiotics -- now, these are rarely at therapeutic levels, and there is no information that the organisms actually survive the manuf. process, but they are listed. So that is one thing Wellness has, that the other doesn't have. Both of them also have good adult foods you could move into later -- Wellness CORE and SG's Barking At The Moon. I would wait 2 weeks before changing a diet - I think pups are stressed out enough just by the change in home. As for free feeding, what will his age/weight be when you get hiim?

| I use Wellness ( Core) but both are good foods. I liked the variety of choices in the Wellness brand. I free feed so I don't know about a schedule , but I would feed a small puppy atleast 4 times ( just breaking his daily serving into 4 portions) a day and leave fresh water down all day. Good luck with your new puppy.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Personally, at that age - I'd probably free feed unless you are able to be with him and feed him 4x a day, while also watching for low blood sugar, which yorkie pups are prone to...
