| My little girl, Zoe, is having a terrible problem with her ears itching, too. Vet says it's environmental allergies. He gives her a steroid shot, antibiotics, and says to use Zymox OTIC Enzymatic Solution for 7 days. We do this and the itching goes away. A couple of days after the 7 days, she's itching again as bad as ever. He told me to give her Benedryl, so have been doing that. Maybe I'm not giving the Benedryl often enough. Does anyone know if it will hurt to continue the Zymox drops daily for much longer than the 7 days? I'll try cleaning her ears with vinegar and then using the Xymox drops and see what that does. I'm interested in the Vicks. Does this really work?? How do you get it down in the ear? We're getting desperate. She has itching attacks. Sometimes she even yelps like she is in severe pain. |

| I received an email form one of my customers that has a few of my yorkies. They are 3 years old now and she has been having problems with one of their ears and took him to a specialist in Bethesda Maryland. They did a biopsy and said it is an auto-immune disease that affects the layer of skin above the cartalidge on the ear-"granulomatous dermatitis". They also said it could be treated with non steroid meds and is rare but another yorkie came in a week later with the same problem. Could this possible be the same thing. I would love to no about using Vick's on the ear. I no it helps for mosquito bites so maybe it will help just with the itching. |

| YorkieTalk Newbie! | Hi, I know about itching in the ear. I have it every once in a while. The only thing that helps is "VICKS" Believe me it helps. I think its the menthol. I would suggest you use a cotton ball to make sure you get it in but be sure not to let the puppy get his feet in it., He might get it in his eyes. No problem Just the menthol effect but it goes away. I also have a friend who said she had itchy ears and she put vinegar drops in them and they never bothered again. Hope this helps., P.S. Its cheaper than an RX. |
