| Mildly enlarged heart? The post about Callie being sick was moved to yorkie health and diet and first off I wanted to let everyone know I did update it after we got back from the vet you can see it here http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...sick-baby.html Anyway after you read that it will explain why I am asking this question. What can lead to a mildly enlarged heart and should I be as worried as I am? I am posting this here because I am hoping more people will see it and respond. Thank you.

| I'm sorry little Callie isn't feeling well. I went back and read your previous posts. Is she feeling better today?

Donating YT 10K Club Member | It is very likely Callie has nothing wrong with her heart. My Reese was diagnosed via an x ray by an ER vet with an enlarged heart. This was not the reason for our visit.... the x ray was to view his lungs. however, I still made an appointment with a cardiologist. She explained unlike specialists...veterinarians compare heart sizes to an picture image of hearts. As a breed...yorkies have larger hearts (don't we know this? ) and are mis-diagnosed all the time. I had an ultrasound performed for my peace of mind....and there is nothing wrong with his heart. HTH.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | How worried you should be depends - are there any symptoms that accompany this? If so, then yes, it could be a concern. If he is asymptomatic, then it could be as Deb said above - but you'd still want to always be sure that his heart is given a very good listen every year and that you remind whomever is giving medical care of this "diagnosis", whether it is symptomatic or not.

Donating YT 10K Club Member | For your own peace of mind....make an appointment with a cardiologist. If there is any issue with her heart...that is who should be treating her any way. I realize fees vary by location, but I paid 225. for our visit and Reese's test.

Donating YT 10K Club Member | I forgot to add...immediately upon viewing Reese's x ray...she told me...his heart wasn't enlarged. The tests just confirmed he had no heart issues.

| Hopefully your pup is just fine but definitely get the opinion of a specialist. My daughters maltese "Daisy" went to her regular vet last monday and the vet heard a murmur and did an exray which showed her heart enlarged. The vet said to take Daisy to a cardiologist in Vienna, VA (northern VA) where she was diagnosed with a very rare heart condition called Eisenmenger syndrome. Prognosis was not very good - 6 mos to 2 years. Daisy is on several different meds (viagra, baby aspirin and an ace inhibitor). Her regular vet contacted the doctors at Virginia Tech and discussed the case with them. And they felt that since Daisy is asymptomatic, she could lead a normal and long life with the medication but needs to be monitored every three months (bloodwork and checkup). Your vet should be able to give you the names of cardiologists in your area. If not, I'd be happy to get the name and number of the vet in Northern VA. But also VAtech has a joint vet program with the university of MD. Maybe the vets at University of MD could see Reese? Their fees are probably less than the specialist (the cardiologist in NoVA charged 400.00). VMRCVM - Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) Program Sending Prayers that Reese is just fine!
