See I ask the vet about his weight before too but they figured he would grow more and trust me he eats like a pig. Hopefully I will find out more this afternoon.

Is your baby a rescue? Good luck at the vet. Maybe some blood work will show something. Glad he's a good eater.

No we got him from a lady a ways away from our hometown. It was her female yorkie's third litter I want to say. He had some blood work done awhile ago and nothing was unusual there. I am just hoping for good news, we will be leaving shortly for the vet so when I get back I will hopefully have some good news.

Okay so were back from the vet and they didn't do a skin scraping because it doesn't look infected or anything so they took some blood to check his thyroid so I don't find out until Tuesday since Monday is a holiday. More waiting.

| I'll be interested to hear what the blood work shows. The area doesn't have to look infected to warrant a skin scraping - but I know my vet was hesitant to do one too

Okay so after a very long wait and a frusterating visit back to the vet we got the tests back. After the first week I called and they lost his blood sample how nice. So I had to put him through the stress of going back over to the vet and they called today and well it isn't his thyroid. His thyroid tests came back fine. So he said to try the derm caps so see if they help otherwise if that doesn't we can run some more tests. So we are going to try the derm caps first I think.

Okay so quick question though. I have read a little about derm caps and I have also heard about missing link. Which one would probably work best for my dog?

No answer to the derm caps but I have a feeling as if your vet maybe not be the one that is all state of the art... I would try to get a second opinion... Oh... and what kind of shampoo do you use for his bath?

I would consider taking him to a different vet where you can get some actual answers and guidance. You may also want to consider having a consult with a veterinary nutritionist who may be able to guide you regarding his diet. There are homemade diets that provide the same balance as the prescription diets but with high quality, home-cooked ingredients. Good luck and keep us posted. I feel bad for the little guy!

That was kind of my thoughts that the pills wouldn't work he said that there is a possibility that he could have cushings disease and that could be why it would take more tests to find out about that. Well we were looking at pictures and he did have quite a bit of hair when he was a puppy when we first got him his hair was quite full actually. I am not sure what kind of shampoo is used it is whatever my groomer uses.

Have you tried putting him on a good quality food? Science Diet is not a very good one. Take a look at Natural Balance ir Wellness.

| my girl has/had liver shunt. she is on Royal Canine Hepatic, 14. it's for liver shnt dogs. my girl likes it much better than the LD, this is another option you have for food. also vegetarian dog food is fine as well, there are many brands which sell this.

On a side note, I would feed the RC Hepatic formula over the Hill's L/D, if I chose kibble. Once you get all this figured out you may want to consider a consult with a nutritionist to formulate a diet that would be appropriate. (I hate all that prescription food if you can't tell! )
