My yorkie's hair Okay I was wondering if it is normal for a yorkie to have almost no hair on their spine. On my yorkie you can see his skin on his back and have been able to for awhile now and he is only 1 1/2 years old. Is this normal? If not is there anything to give him or do to have a fuller coat? |
No that does not sound normal. What does his skin look like? Is it dry, flaky? I wonder what his diet consists of. Can you post a picture? |

I'm not an expert, and I'm sure you will find your answer here, but almost no hair is not normal. Can you post a picture, may that would help? |
2 Attachment(s) Here are two pictures you can kind of tell. He isn't completely bald it is just very very thin. Oh and he eats Hills Prescription LD just switched him over to dry because his bile acid test was over 100 so I switched him awhile ago but I don't think his food is the problem because before he was on artemis and it was like that then. His back has been like this for quite awhile now. |
My Jewels hair on her back got thin when she was a pup and the vet put her on antibiotics and it cleared whatever it was up because her hair grew back and she didnt have any more problems |
No, that isn't normal - but I would hope with identifying what is going on there could be new hair growth Have you spoken to your vet about this? I think you need to have the vet do a skin scraping so you know what you are dealing with - or at least to rule some things out. Once you have that done then you will have somewhere to go from there. |

I spoke to my vet awhile ago but I think they just thought it was because he is so young and just hasn't grown into it yet. No I don't have wild fox in my yard or anything I live in town and I have never seen any wild animals in my yard anyway. I think I will do that thank you to everyone. |
I also noticed looking at pictures of other yorkies that he doesn't have a lot of facial hair. Like around his nose it is bare and I have been trying to grow his hair out so he hasn't had a cut for quite some time but there still isn't anything. But we are going to the vet today at 4:30 so hopefully I will find out why he is like this. |
If it were mange it would be spreading to other areas |
See that was my thoughts. I mean it does look a little dry and scaly but very very little and I mean his hair has been like this for a long time and I just thought he would grow into it or something but he hasn't. It doesn't seem to bother him at all like it is itchy or anything and it isn't red at all. So I don't really know hopefully they can tell me something at the vet this evening. It would be nice for him to have more hair. Also his feet don't have much hair either. Is that normal or not? In pictures of yorkies it is hard to see their feet if their hair is long so I don't know. Is that normal for their feet? Could someone post some pictures of their yorkie for me to see. Like a bunch of close ups on their noses and feet and just some good close ups. That would be great if someone could. |
I dont have a picture of mines feet but they are covered with hair. I think its either alergies or a bacterial infection. What food are you feeding |
He was on Hills Prescription LD canned but I just switched him to dry. But before that he was on artemis and it was like that then. His hair has been like this for quite awhile now so I don't think it is his food. But I don't know. |
If a skin scrapping dosen't show something I would ask the doctor about his thyroid. Good luck. I know it must be frustrating not to get answers. |
he looks alittle too thin to me. it could be the food he isnt eating |
