| Update Okay so here's the latest... Bentley is scheduled for surgery on Feb. 24th and Sadie is going to have hers once she has been out of heat for a few weeks per our vet's instructions. I've realized that I'm not ready for the responsibility that comes with Sadie being in heat. I know that getting Bentley fixed is the best thing for him but I have to admit I'm nervous about the surgery, it sounds scary I hope he comes out of it okay, i'm sure he will but I'm still worried. I've actually been worried about him the past couple of days because he has lost some weight, he's not using the bathroom when I let him out he just runs around frantically, and he doesn't sleep he stays up all night stirring around in his crate, crying, and barking. Anyhow, I want to thank everyone who has given me advice it has been very helpful. |

| Poor Bentley! If you think Sadie's going into heat is hard on YOU - look at HIM! And he doesn't even understand what's going on. His hormones are in a dither because of the scents Sadie is giving off, and he's lost his companion and playmate at the same time. He's going to need a Doggie Psychiatrist when this is all done . It's a shame you couldn't get him in earlier; by the time he gets there, the worst will be over with. But good luck with them both. |

Please make sure you get pre op bloodwork done on them both. It will tell your vet if their organs are healthy enough to metabolize the anesthesia. A healthy liver is critical to handling anesthesia and Yorkies are prone to liver disease. Most of the low cost clinics only do the spays and neuters so you will have to take them to your vet beforehand to have the bloodwork done. It is worth the extra expense as it can save their life. | |

| Relief I'm starting to feel some relief as I think that Sadie is coming out of heat. Bentley doesn't seem to be interested in her anymore, but I'm not really sure how to know for sure. The whining has stopped, no more panting, no more stalking. Anyhow, if she is coming out of I am so relieved, however, I'm not letting my guard down and I will keep them seperate until I am sure, or at least until Tuesday when Bentley gets fixed. |

| Question I don't think Sadie is in heat anymore but I wanted if it is normal now that she is out of heat for her nipples to be larger than before? |

| Since she was in heat for a week & 1/2 before you realized it, there is a good chance that she could be pregnant. |

| I would think your vet would be a good source to pose this question to.

| I asked the vet they said there is no way to know until she is further along if she is pregnant... they would have to do an xray in about 3 wks |

| If the vet told you that there is no way to tell except xray, please get a second opinion. Ultrasounds and blood testing for relaxin can be done sooner than xray.

| I thought it was a bit odd... well today her nipples are back to normal but I know that doesn't mean anything. I thought dogs were like people, I thought there was like a pee test...lol shows how naive I am! |

Yorkie Yakker | I know how you feel. I don't have children either and I have 3 yorkies. Katie who is 11 mths and 2lbs is at the vet being spayed as I'm typing. I am so worried about her, I started crying when I left her because she looked pitiful not knowing what was happening, but I keep thinking that this is for her own good....to live longer. My male yorkie is 8 yrs old and I had him neutered when he was 9mths. He doesn't seem aggresive since. The other male yorkie was given to me and he has never been neutered and he IS aggressive towards the others. Hope this helps you decide on what to do as far as spaying her. You're right, they are just like kids, you worry about them and everything. |

| Going through the same thing! Or was! My 8 month old yorkiepoo started licking herself and her pee pee looked swollen so I called the vet. He thought was she going into heat. My vet will spay while they are in heat so I got her spayed last Friday and she is back to her wild self now. HOWEVER, I also have a 11 month old MALE yorkie who has done nothing but whine and cry and shake ever since she came into heat. He can't get her pregnant and now that she's had surgery she doesn't let him to get to her but he is driving us all INSANE!!!!! THANK GOD this will only last for a week or so. When the vet finished with Nahla's surgery he said she had an "abnormal" uterus. She is only 4 pounds and we had actually thought about breeding her with my yorkie but now I am soooooooooooooooooo glad we didn't because had she even been able to get pregnant she probably would have died. So, word to the wise......GET YOUR FEMALES SPAYED WHEN THEY ARE 6 MONTHS OLD AND THEN YOU CAN AVOID YOUR DOGS ACTING A'FOO! LOL |
