| I really don't think it has to do with uneducated people, there are a lot of people without jobs, and they have to feed their animals what they can afford. You also have to realize, the ones of us that are my age grew up with purina, etc. They did NOT have all these foods when we were growing up, and our dogs always lived long healthy lives on these foods. So, really, I don't think you should call people uneducated, as I said, older people know what they did years ago to have healthy dogs. I'm keeping my dogs on this for now, they really love it, but, if hubby loses job, in order for me to survive, I have to eat, which means feeding the dogs a crappier food |

| Again, why are you feeding "crappier" food when you could be feeding high quality food for the same price?

| phfgkl, I think it's great that you're starting to research what you feed your dogs. I'm a little confused by your original post. Do you mean that you're using Dogswell dry food? If so, here's the ingredients..."Dogswell Vitality INGREDIENTS Chicken, Chicken Meal, Oats, Barley, Rye, Brown Rice, Chicken Fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols), Natural Flavor, Flaxseed, Tomato Pomace, Sweet Potatoes, Dicalcium Phosphate, Alfalfa Leaf, Vitamin E Supplement, Apples, Blueberries, Carrots, Peas, Garlic Powder, Chicory Root Extract, Choline Chloride, Taurine, Lactobacillus Plantarum, Enterococcus Faecium, Lactobacillus Casei, Lactobacillus Acidophilus, Vitamins and Minerals (Zinc Proteinate, Copper Proteinate, Niacin Supplement, Manganese Proteinate, Sodium Selenite, d-Calcium Pantothenate, Vitamin A Acetate, Riboflavin Supplement, Calcium Iodate, Vitamin B-12 Supplement, Vitamin D-3 Supplement, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Thiamine Mononitrate, Folic Acid) NUTRITIONAL INFORMATION crude protein 24% (min) crude fat 12% (min) crude fiber 4% (max) moisture 11% (max) vitamin E 100i.u./kg (min) vitamin A 5000i.u./kg (min) omega-3 fatty acids 0.45% (min) "........I don't see any real 'red flag' ingredients in it but do notice that it has 4 different grains in it. When you add them up, you could say this food is probably mostly grain rather than meat. If your dogs love it, that fine. It doesn't matter how good a food is if they won't eat it. It might be a little pricey for a food with so much grain. Since you don't seem to mind shopping online for your food, you may want to look at Pet Food Direct. Here's the link Pet Food Supplies Dog Cat Bird ... PetFoodDirect.com They offer most brands at a price that's cheaper than stores so you don't pay so much, even with the shipping. There's also usually an ingredient breakdown so you can compare ingredients and prices on the same site. You may find it helpful. |

| I wrote these foods down several years ago. Some of the top foods I believe are: Solid Gold, Welliness, Innovia, California Natural, Natural Balance, Merrick, Breeder's Choice, Timber Wolf Organic. I know we spend a fortune on ours because I buy kibble and canned but I really want the best for my babies and I know everyone does. Like everyone said it is best to pay even a little more if you have too and make sure your baby is getting the best food he or she deserves. They depend on us to take care of them and I for one want the best for mine. I know its a hard choice sometimes but I also give mine vitamins. I actually take better care of them than I do myself. lol!!!! |

| I don't know how much it would help, but when picking a food I scoured dogfoodanalysis.com for reviews. My breeder feeds her beauties Eagle Pack Holistic (I think that's what it's called), but I'll be switching my baby from Eagle Pack to Wellness just because I think Wellness is a tad bit healthier. |

| This is in a sticky on the Yorkie Diet & Health forum. Dog Food Analysis - Reviews of kibble It gives food information, such as content & ratings. I'm not sure who is doing the rating though.
