The Honest Kitchen + Kibble??? Hello Yorkie Experts Please help me!! I am so tired of Snickers and his picky eating issues. I finally have found a food he will KIND OF eat, it's Natural Balance Sweet Potato and Venison. Now, I notice he is not very interested in eating in the morning, so yesterday I used a sample bag of THK Embark and he liked it. I never take that for any worth b/c chances are, he will not like it again, but this morning he ate it. Seems after he eats that he likes to nibble on some kibble which I am ok with. What do you all think about feeding him a combo of Embark and NB Venison?? I notice NB has a lower protein & less meat than most grainless foods, and thought if he would do well on the combo but wanted to ask 1st. Please be blunt if this is a dumb idea.... Also, he did poop more than before after trying the Embark but he did also have an off schedule Booda Bone b/c his teeth are falling out and that could have caused the extra poop too. I would love to hear your thoughts....I hope they are positive b/c I think Snick would do well on it, plus I like the kibble to help with teeth cleaning. THANKS AS ALWAYS- -Viv & Snick Ps..His treats only consists of Wellness Grainless Jerky which he adores. He uses Venison right now.

I don't see a problem with using both. A lot of people feed raw for one meal and leave kibble down all the time. I've done that with both of my dogs. Of course they don't like the kibble, but do eat a couple of pieces now and then.

Is Snickers still on antibiotics? That may be why his appetite is off. Have you tried giving him yogurt or probiotics? I read back through your earlier thread and it looks like you've fed him 6 or 7 different foods. They all seem like quality foods but you have to give any of them a chance and not mix up his diet every other day. You may just be creating a picky eater by doing this. I notice you live in Michigan. If the weather's bad there and he's not getting out and getting enough exercise, he may be bored and not have a good appetite anyway. He does need to eat but if he's not burning off the calories, he may eat less than you'd expect. You might try mixing a little canned food in with his kibble to get him interested. If you try that, find a brand that comes in several flavors so he doesn't get tired of that too. He may have a medical issue that's affecting his appetite but it's hard to say since you keep switching his food. The different brands could have different enough formulas to create stomach upset for that reason alone. In your earlier thread, you posted that he gobbled up the Nature's Logic. Maybe go back to that (or whatever he ate best) and use a little canned too. Also, maybe no more treats until he starts eating his food. Best of luck to you. I hope you get this resolved.

Thank you...I can see how it prob looks that way. The reason I have been inquiring so much is so I can narrow this down and you are right--I prob am creating a picky eater, but I can say, I am still mixing his new foods with his original Merrick Puppy Plate. He itches on his Puppy Plate so have been getting samples and trying them out. You're right--he did eat the Nature's Logic one day and then goes hungry for the next 3 days, I can't have that. We tried a bit of the EVO and his poops were so huge and scary and crazy that we stopped that after 4 days. Well the NB Venison has been good for the past 5 days and also THK in the mornings. He is still on antibiotics for a few more days, but 3 out of the 4 meds he was on are done. I'm pretty much set on my choice now, just wanted some feedback for some warnings if it's not a good choice. I just want to make the right choice....thank goodness I have not gone out and bought big bags of any of these. -Vivian

I don't really have much experience with matching up a dog's food to specific medical conditions as, luckily, all mine are healthy and aren't picky. I wasn't aware that Snickers had been on several meds. That may be affecting his appetite. All the foods you mentioned are quality foods, but, if he has an ongoing medical condition may not be appropriate for him. If that's the case, there are folks here with good experience that may be able to help you further. Generally speaking, if he's eating fairly well now, stay with it. Best to you and Snickers.
