| Hip Displasia My yorkie was diagnosed with hip displasia when she was about 3 months old. She's ten months old now and about 4 1/2 lbs. On Christmas Eve she started limping but it was better by the next day. I've noticed since then that she seems to have trouble sitting and when she does sit it's oddly, almost on her hip. She's also no longer able to climb the stairs though she used to be able to with no difficulty. She doesn't seem to be in any pain though and is fine with walking and running. Should I bring her to the vet to get checked out? |

| Bumping this for you. This is my personal opinion. I would most certainly have it checked by your vet and possibly be sent on to a specialist. I have been told that it is better to take care of issues before they get out of hand. There are also meds that can be given that help temporarily---pain and glucosemine. This brand has been recommended: Cosequin Regular Strength (90 capsules)

Donating YT 10K Club Member | Are you certain she was diagnosed with hip dysplasia or was it legg perthes disease. Yorkies suffer from the later...it's a degenerative disease of the hip joint. The bone disintegrates and the leg isn't held in place. It has to be surgically repaired. So yes...she needs to see the vet or an orthopedic specialist.

| I was not there, it was the breeder who told us. He said that his vet noticed on her last check up before she was sent to us. It was definitely hip dysplasia that he said when he told me. I wasn't there at her follow-up check up at the vet, but from what I heard about it our vet agreed. |

| I would certainly take her to the vet to get it checked out, just to make sure that there isn't anything wrong. Since she was fine and suddenly she can't go up the stairs or sits oddly, I would just want to make sure that there isn't something serious going on. |

| All I can say, is we're dealing with our 3 1/2 year old golden retriever having a bad case of hip dysplasia. When they're like that that young, it's from breeding 2 parents with the same problem, so most likely your breeders dogs(parents of the puppy) had it. We didn't have the $7500 laying around for the surgeries for the golden, so decided to put her on a pain pill the rest of her life, and then she was on a pill also (rimadyl)for arthritis(I was having to pay $280 every 3-4 mos for that) so took her off and put her on a glucosmin pill I put her on in place of the rimadyl from petsmart . She's actually doing really well now, (she also went through 8 weeks of glucosamin shots |
