Frontline harmful? I read on a website this story about frontline . . . BEST YET AS A ALTERNATIVE TO SPOT DROPS To Doctor Ben at CedarCide: I wish I had talked to you five years ago. If I had used BEST YET my life would be different today. I am so sorry, I just didn't know the consequences of listening to money hungry Veterinarians. I got Niklas as a puppie in 2002. A beautiful male Silver Sable German Shepherd. He helped me through the the rough times I had as a middle aged widow. What a dog he was. I did everything right with him, so I thought. The Vet gave him his shots, put him on a science diet and prescribed a regiment of Spot Drops to keep the fleas off him. But I was so wrong. Niklas died young at 5 years. I was heartbroken. I became obsessed with finding out what killed him. My Vet avoided me and objected when I asked for a autopsy. He would not do it. He became extremely angry with me when I took Niklas's body to the University. Now I know why. The autopsy confirmed that I had killed my beloved Niklas. I cried for weeks. Now I am on a mission to save other dogs from unknowingly being killed by their masters. A mission that makes every Vet in the country cringe. And rightfully so. I killed Niklas by using Frontline Spot Drops on him. I actually induced thyroid cancer in him with the chemical called Fipronil. And I also exposed myself to the same carcinigen. I murdered my friend and companion of five years. I will never get over that. Perhaps I can help save someone else from the horrible guilt I must live with. Please post this to the Testimonial page of your website with a link to the following publication related to the use of Frontline, Advantage, Adams, Bio Spot, Defend and Zodiac Spot on Pesticides. I am sure there are many more I didn't name. This is a multibillion dollar revenue stream for the Chemical Companies and the Vets of America are their partners in crime. After talking to you Dr. Ben, I see how foolish I was. The theory of using my Niklas as a magnet for fleas and letting him kill them for me using poisons in his blood stream is downright stupid. One spray of BEST YET kills them instantly and does a pretty good job of keeping them off for many days. I know because I now have a new Niklas in my life and rest assured, the local Vet will never see the likes of me or Niklas II anywhere other than the courthouse. Incidentally, I drive by his clinic everyday on the way to work. He has a flashing sign that says "Get Your Frontline Here". My advice to folks reading this testimonial, print a copy of the following publication http://www.apnm.org/publications/res...leachemfin.pdf and confront your Vet with it immediately. Quit using the Spot on Drops and Get some CedarCide BEST YET. As for you Dr. Ben, perhaps you need to step up and tell the World what you have known for years about these chemicals ! Silence is not noble ! Katherine Mindy Sensha........San Francisco......California Does anyone spot treat their dogs with frontline?? Does anyone know if this is harmful to or babies?????? |
That's very sad. :( At the same time, I get a little bit concerned that vets are all considered "money hungry". Yes, some of them are but most of them would never want to hurt an animal. They wouldn't go to school for eight years and go tens of thousands of dollars into debt if they didn't care. Over vaccination, ingredients in pet foods and certain medications and pesticides are a big problem but there is no way around some of it. Very little nutrition is taught in vet school. Vaccine protocols are still being researched and I'm sure under vaccinating is a very scary thought to vets. Flea medications are very toxic but natural remedies just do not work as well or end up causing harm also (like tea tree oil in cats and small dogs and garlic). I hate the thought of using anything for fleas on Ellie, so I usually don't. A few weeks ago I had no choice and we aren't going to live in a flea infested house. So sometimes there is just no way around these things. :( Fipronil is a Group C carcinogen and I agree that it is very sad that this stuff has to be used. :( |

That is a sad story and it's even sadder when it didn't have to happen.... Thank you for posting the name of "Best Yet" I will be definitely looking into it.....Personally I no longer hold vets in high regard as I had once done. I feel most have succumbed to the lure of the bottom line...PROFITS...... Bottom Line Blurs Veterinary Practices Danger of Chemical Pest Control Products - safe alternatives All flea and heart worm treatment are poisons, plain and simple.......With the over use of these product we have done the same to the flea as we have done with the overuse of antibiotics. We are seeing fleas that are getting immune to the poisons so in the near future we'll be using stronger and stronger poisons on our pets....I for one will not do this, there are alternatives, like the product you just posted about, neem oil, tea tree oil, diatomaceous earth, etc.etc. People tend to use what is faster and easier but not necessarily better for the health of their pet....it's a shame for the pets..... |
What!! I use Frontline during the summer months. I thought everyone uses this. Now you telling me it's poisnous. What are we to do...? |
I use sentinel on my dogs. It gets kind of expensive, but, it is for fleas and heartworm. It's a monthly pill. I have just recently decided to stop giving it to the little dogs, as I don't really worry about heartworm with them, since they're hardly outside, and w hen they are, it's during the day, not night. I will keep the outside dogs on it though, and find something else to use for the 4 little ones, I can't stand fleas |
I found the website that gives a lot of detail about this product and how to order. I don't think I am allowed to post the link here, but I am definetly going to talk with my Friend who is my vet tomorrow and get her input on it. I will share tomrrow what she thinks. I am using Frontline on Daisy Mae right now and I am not happy about this info. Thank goodness I have only given it to her for 2 months. I will share tomorrow. ~Kathy:animal-pa |

READ THIS POST BY ME OF WHAT HAPPENED LAST NIGHT AFTER GIA HAD HER SHOTS AND AFTER I APPLIED THE FRONTLINE: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...e-gia-cpr.html Also, I use sentine too but it only makes flees sterile from what my vet said. I also use frontline and that is supposed to kill the flees. |

I gave this article to my vet today. She is going to review it and call me to discuss. She glanced at the front page and said she would not recommend anything but Frontline and Advantage. I'll post again after I hear back from her. |

Thank you please let me know what she says. |
Wow, that story is both sad and frightening at the same time. I use Heartguard once a month for heartworm and fleas. Does anyone know if this's ok or no? |

This is really eye opening - I tend not to use anything topical for fleas when I am at home - I have found alternatives to treating my home & yard - Borax sprinkled in the yard during warm mths & I have those electronic plug ins in my house that are to keep rodents & other small things together (they say they can't prove no fleas - but since I began using them a decade ago - no fleas :) ) But when I am traveling with the dogs to other places out of state - especially warmer places, and my dogs will be outside & around other dogs, I have used Frontline, even when I was hesitant to do so. WE'RE DONE NOW!! This really upsets me. I go to a holistic/acupuncture vet, I will be taking him this article! Thank you for the post. But did anyone else notice that this article is 7 years old!! WHY WHY WHY isn't there more information out there on this??? This is just like the drug companies we deal with as humans - these firms are so powerful they block information & are such a powerful industry in our country! Thank you BJ - jp4m2 - for this link Danger of Chemical Pest Control Products - safe alternatives Lots of great info! I wasn't familiar with this website - I can see I have a lot of reading to do on her site! |
This really has me thinking now, as both of mine have had trouble with hair loss - I so rarely use Frontline, as I said before, I do when we are traveling. I used it last winter when we were going to Florida & then they had hair loss last winter on their ears & nose - thought it was leather ear. Then went mths without any Frontline, as I treat it differently at home. But I used Frontline again late this summer & then again in November when I went south - again I began seeing hair loss --- I have not been able to figure out why. I even finally had a skin scraping done on both dogs last mth & the vet couldn't find anything wrong with them. I now highly suspect the Frontline.:thumbdown |
Has anyone talked to their vet??? My vet sells it to me so I doubt I will get the truth. I want to know what I should do about this. I will not use this on my monkeys if it is bad for them. Please ask you holistic vet what they think. I was also told by my vet to try and use it year round because the fleas in MI are really bad in the summer and to prevent anything lingering on in the winter it is good to just continue it. |
