all I know is that it caused my last yorkie to be sick...so I would never use it again...it was recommended by my vet...you tend to trust your vet sometimes..:rolleyes:

A lot of the discussion has been more focused on fleas. What about ticks?? I live in MN and have used frontline (by suggestion of my vet) for my boys, we have had no problems, but I am definately thinking to NOT use it any longer after reading this thread. We thankfully have had no problems and it has worked well, and have only used it when at the cabin due to the enormous numbers of ticks, but have never had flea issues at our house or out and about. I see this "Best Yet" has been discussed, does it really work??? Definately want to repel those little blood suckers and let the boys play outside with all the 'big kids' and not be worried about picking ticks off my babies.

I just registered on yorkietalk!! I am the proud mom of a 1 1/2 year old little ball of energy called JB. Ok here is the story.. We have been finding some fleas on him so we took him today to the vet and he gave us Capstar. I really hate giving meds to him, specially because he is super delicate and gets rashes, upset stomach very easily. Besides, I am well aware that all this flea meds are insecticides so they are not the safest. Anyways, have any of you used or know anything about Capstar???

I know we all want what's best for our pets, but I am not sure I would take one online testimonial at face value, particularly if it is seven years old. I was talking with the checkout woman about how much pet care has changed in the past thirty years. We had an indoor/outdoor cat when I was growing up who was constantly infested with fleas. I remember we used to just get flea powder at the grocery store and cover her in it. She would groom herself and get sick. FYI, she lived to be 24 years old.

It's always a delicate balance when you want to kill living things (fleas) that reside on other living things we don't want affected (pets). I would prefer not to use anything on Thor, but keep in mind that there isn't a substance on earth that someone somewhere doesn't think is deadly, be it corn, zinc, tuna fish, vitamin A, and so on, ad nauseum. -Quote-

My Mother In Law has beeen using frontline exclusively since I've known her (about 13 yrs) She has five dogs ( one that is almost 17) and I've never seen her pets have any problems. So, I don't know that I buy this article. Like the above poster said. There isn't a substance out there that someone doesn't have a problem with

:mad: My 11 1/2 year old Yorkie Sasha has developed multiple mast cell tumors (a type of malignant skin cancer). Although their cause is unknown, I believe from all that I've read about Fipronil (the toxic chemical in Frontline) that it is the root of her cancer. These are just a few articles I've come across about how bad Fipronil and spot on pesticides are. It might be too late but I will never use Frontline on any pet again. I now use a 100% natural flea/tick product on Sasha made by Quantum Herbal Products and that is also safe for me :). It is quite effective and here is the link:

On another note, Sasha begins radiation therapy on Monday for hopefully her last tumor that could not be completely removed via surgery. Please pray for her and that radiation kills the last of it!:xfingers:
