| Flea Meds & NYC My breeder told me that she doesn't like using flea meds esp when I live in NYC. What do you think? She said the chemical in flea meds are very bad but flea meds seem so common. She said if I have a back yard (which I dont), treat the yard in an organic manner but never use flea meds on dogs. Anyone hear of similiar things? |

| Your breeder is absolutely right. Flea meds aren't healthy at all but sometimes it is hard to get around using them. Ellie doesn't play outside much, so we don't have an issue. When we do, she gets a bath in Dawn. If that doesn't work, we use Frontline Plus. This is for fleas only and we do "not" skip heartworm medication.

♥ love my girls!! ♥ Donating Member | I'm with everyone else....Bella isn't outside much, really since I have no yard, so only when I'm walking her. I've read so many bad things about flea meds causing horrible neurologic problems that I stopped treating her as a preventative. I'm with Ellie May.....if I ever see a flea (which I haven't since I stopped using it anyway) we'd bathe with Dawn and then if that didn't lick it, we'd use Frontline, but only until the fleas were gone, and then back to nothing at all. I also use Interceptor and had been planning to skip during winter, but it doesn't look like it's going to stay cold enough here this year to be able to skip. I'll have to look it up again, but I think it has to STAY below 56 F for 2 weeks solid before it's ok to stop and then once it stays above 56 F for 2 wks you should start giving it again in like 4-6 wks. Again, I'd have to look that up again, but we keep having 60+ days here and have been, so I guess we'll be treating year round
