Bogie was recently diagnosed with Collapsing Trachea. Both he and Jada have never chewed their food and I have slow feed bowl that don't help at all.
I also have chopped their kibble in a food grinder which is a pain.
I can't help but think his non chewing of hard kibble has to be hard on his trachea. My plan is to home cook from here on out.
My question is do you think his not chewing food could have made his CT progress or been the cause of it?
I haven't discussed with my vet yet and I will when we go in for Rabies shots in a couple of weeks.

Oh, I am sorry to hear that. How big are your kibbles? Mylee gobbles her food down whole too and she doesn't have any problems with CT. I don't know if it would cause, or make it worse or not but I have wondered the same thing. Poor Bogie.

I am very sorry to hear Bogey has been diagnosed with CT. Does he have symptoms?

There are so many things that can cause CT, but I don't think swallowing kibble whole would be a big contributor. There are Yorkies without teeth who still eat kibble. Some dogs crunch every kibble and some swallow a lot of whole ones.

I was surprised to read that allergies can cause CT by damaging the throat.

No, I really don't think kibble has anything to do w/ CT. Many dogs 'inhale' the majority of their kibble, not even chewing it at all - just swallowing it whole, so this isn't unusual and it shouldn't damage anything. Nothing you did or fed made anything worse for your beloved kiddo

Lexi possibly has CT and the funny thing is she coughs almost every time she drinks, but not when she eats. So I don't think the food is irritating her trachea

I feed natural balance sweet potatoes and venison Shelly. They are not huge but they aren't tiny either.

Bogie has symptoms when we walk with a harness even the buddy belt and choke free cause him to cough. He's just recently started coughing when he gets overly excited or has been playing hard.
I always thought it was just allergies until our vet heard him coughing in the office a couple of weeks ago.

How long had bogie coughed? Lexi has coughed when drinking since we got her at 3 months old, but she recently has started coughing when walking with her harness on. She always pulls hard when walking. I just can't get her to stop pulling, but now that is making her cough i really need to.

Bogie has always coughed when walking on harness. I never thought anything about it. Our vet heard him a couple of weeks ago when we were in for annual checkups. He did the manual manipulation to test his trachea. I haven't had hi. Scoped at this point I'm not going to. It won't fix it and it won't change his prognosis. It will only tell how bad it is.
We adopted bogie when he was 7 months old. Our vet said its most likely he was born with it and it was nothing we did wrong. We've never used a collar on him when walking or don't anything that would cause damage.

You could grind up the food and soften with warm water rather than cooking for them. When you cook they become picky eaters and its really hard to get a well balanced diet. Bil Jac makes a soft kibble that is preservative, grain free. Maybe think about that. Good luck and hope you find a solution.

thave him groomed where they place a harness or collar around his neck. Be sure to mention this when you take him in. I do my own grooming because mine has a narrowing tracea.

Bogie has been to a groomer twice in his life. I do all the grooming on my two because I don't trust groomers at all.
