Luxating Patellas :( My new boy was to the vet yesterday and was diagnosed with Luxating Patellas grade 3 in bothe back knees and possible collapsing trachia I am very upset and up in the air about just what I am going to do. My state has a strict puppy Lemon law which will protect me but I'm still quite upset and don't know really what Is REALLy the best thing . I know alot of you will say if I really loved him I would keep him, but I have to also really think of all the consequences and weigh everything out. First of all I paid a PREMIUM price for him and let's face it... money does matter if you don't have alot of it. Second, I canonly imagine all the extra costs ahead for me over the years, not to mention all the heartbreak to come by watching him in pain and going through everything. Yes he can probably have surgeries but once again..... I don't have that kind of extra money and I spent every bit of extra I had and will have buying him in the first place. I budgeted for regular care and food and toys and vet visits and even a bit extra for minor emergencies, but a whole operation that is VERY expensive I did NOT budget that kind of money. There also is added in the possibility of the collapising trachea, which the vet says he can not verify completely at this time... That is a whole extra painful trauma to think of and it would just be compounding the money and also pain issues for myself and him. So now I am waiting to hear back from where I bought him from. I went there in person , and made them sign the DR. report verifying I showed it to them during the warranty period. I guess I just have to see if they call me back and what they are willing to offer and then decide what I am willing to accept as an answer. The Lemon law here is... Full refund or exchange for comparable puppy or can keep puppy and be reimbursed reasonable vet fees, which can be tricky to interpret . Anyway I have heard nothing yet , but will wait one more day before calling them back.

Thanks. Here where I am the decision is LEGALLY mine which option, but I just was waiting to hear from the place I bought it thinking it would probably go smoother waiting for them to contact me back. Legally they have 14 days to do something for me.

I'm in Pa. I know all the law, but I am just waiting right now trying to give them a chance to responde. I already have talked with the local enforcement head for my county and he has already mailed out complaint forms for me to fill out if they don't respond during the deadline. Luckily the County I bought him in also happens to be the head guy for Puppy Lemon Law enforcement.

| I'm so sorry to hear about your little one. Maybe the breeder can pay half or all of the medical expenses instead of replacing your puppy? I know a lot of animal shelter in New York (Manhattan) can do those type of operations for less money then a regular vet. I see that you live in PA. I live in Brooklyn, NY (we're not that far from each other by car). If you want help looking into an animal shelter in NY that performs surgery on luxated patellas and prices, please let me know and I will do some research for you. By the way, my Codie has his rear left leg operated on because he had a severe luxated patella. He's doing great and FULLY recovered! Good luck with your pup.

I hope and pray it works out for you. I would surely hate to give my pup up. There are places that would help you with the costs, I've heard. Good luck and God help you and your baby.
