| sleepy after rabies shot? Duke is due for his 1 year booster rabies shot this month. I'm wondering if I take him early in the morning before I go to work, would he be sleepy and sleep while I'm gone or will he need me to watch him during the day? All he did was sleep last year after all his shots so I'm not sure what to expect this time. Thanks

| Yorkies can have pretty severe reactions to rabies and other vaccinations. It's not safe to leave him alone all day afterwards. Can you schedule it after work or on Saturday? |

| My babies are 2 yrs. & 1 1/2 yrs. old and have not had bad reactions to their shots but I still schedule them for late in the afternoon or weekends so I can keep my eye on them

| I too make sure that I have the day off and the following day when Layla has her rabies- it really affects her and i keep a very close eye on her- she usually runs a slight fever but that's it. |

| Since it has only been a year since the last vaccines i would reccomend a titer test performed. IT will show you if the levels of the first vaacines are high enough where no shots are needed. I haved read that often vaacines last for three years or more in a dog. My Vet even suggested doing a titer on my Suzi.

| I also read something about that too, how the rabies shots are good for 2 years. Anyone know how often it should be? I just thought it was once a year until I read it somewhere else.

| My vet requires that you stay with them for a couple of hours. Actually, we are going today to get Molly's rabies booster injection.

| We were expecting Nikko to probably be sleepy after his vaccinations, after hearing all the stories from everyone else. But instead, he was his usual rambunctious self, and didn't even seem to be sore at the injection site. He seemed a smidge off for the first ten minutes after we got home, so I gave him a little children's benadryl (I'm a worrier) - and that didn't seem to phase him either! After ten minutes at home and that dose of benadryl, he was going crazy running around and begging to go play with the neighbor's dog! LOL, he's a nut. The only bad thing that seemed to happen to him was he had one poop that looked a little worse than normal, but may have been from the cheeze I hid the benadryl in. I'd still make sure you can watch your dog after the vaccinations... even though this one for us went so easily, we're still going to make sure we're with him the whole day next time as well. You just never know. Lauren & Nikko |

| Thankfully we got Duke's shot last saturday and he was fine. He didn't show any reaction signs, wasn't even sleepier than usual. Thanks everyone, it's amazing how we forget things from a year ago.
