| Skip the Rabies Vaccine? Good evening everyone! Missy went to the vet today for her last set of shots and an exam. She did wonderful except for being a little squirmy butt during the shot. I expected that from last time though, so I just get them to let me hold her. She weighed in at 1 lb, 14 ozs at 14.5 weeks old. My little heavyweight. Anyways, I discussed the Bordetella and Rabies vaccinations with my vet. I will definitely NOT be doing Bordetella, and I'm thinking that I may skip the Rabies too. What do you all think? I asked the vet what her risks are if she doesn't get it, and she said by the sounds of it Missy won't be much of an "outdoorsy type" and really the only way she'd come into contact would be if a Bat flew in our home. All of the cases of Rabies in the last few yrs in my province have been found in bats (14 or less per year for the entire province), except for one which was a cat last year. I know there are random skunks and coyotes that wander through our area, but Missy will never be outside off leash, and she is pee pad trained. I'd like to keep it that way. So, what do you all think? It's not "the law" to get the Rabies vaccine in my area. Should I skip it? Would you? Here's a pic of Missy last night. Thought I'd share...her colour is sure starting to change.

| I'm not sure what I would do about the rabies vaccination, honestly in your situation, because shes so little and wont be outside much, I would skip it. But I just wanted to say Your Baby is ADORABLE!!

| Aren't you lucky to have the option not to give the rabies vaccine! Since Missy's risk of exposure is so low, I wouldn't take the chance. There are way too many side effects: What You Should Know About the Rabies Vaccine for Dogs |

| I've decided not to do the rabies vacc. I just needed some reassurance that I'm making the right decision. Thank you.

Lucky for you that it is not "the Law" were you are, my Jeter was only 1 pound 6 ounces when he got his first rabies vaccine last year when he was 15weeks old, Now in a few weeks he gets to go in for his yearly booster with the rabies shot included this time ( after that it's every 3 years) and he is now 15 months old and is 2 pounds 8 ounces...I am a bit worried again like last year I really wish I had the option not to get it!

| Here in Pa. it's required to get Rabies...They're discussing if indoor cats should reeive the rabies and distemper shot. I give all my animals their Distemper shots myself. The Vet must by law give their Rabies Injections in case they need surgery. For the longest time I gave both. I only take the dogs out for walks and car rides, But you never know!! The cats get 1 Rabies when they're neutered and that's it. I give the distember every 2 years! They never go out. If she's not going to be out, I would skip it...

Tucker wont be getting his for a few more months yet but Im dreading it. good for you for finding a vet that respects your desicion. Your baby is adorable and so tiny!!

| If I had the choice, I would not vaccinate an indoor dog for rabies. I would vaccinate one that liked to chase animals outside or who was left unsupervised outside. In my opinion, it is a very dangerous vaccine, especially for small dogs.
