| ![]() My sophie will be 7 months old in about another week. I have never seen a dog love to eat so much before. She eats 3 times a day, usually 8:30, 12:30, and 5:30. I've been thinking about trying to go down to feeding her 2 times a day. At this age would that be okay? She is eating wellness for puppy and loves it, but I find she is always hungry, a good hour before she eats she is looking for her food. I have just noticed that she is putting on a bit of weight, it's not as easy to feel her ribs anymore... |

| ![]() I'm not sure about a feeding schedule , I free feed right now and they seem to regulate themselves. I don't think its bad for a puppy to have a little weight at 7 months , but I am not sure...I'm sure others will answer that know more ![]()

| ![]() I would wait until around 1 year until you went down to 2 feedings. What you can do now is feed less during each serving to decrease the calorie intake but still make sure she doesn't get hungry. Does that make sense?

Thor's Human Donating Member | ![]() This is not a professional opinion, but I think it's fine for a puppy to be a little chubby. As she grows to her full size, she will most likely lean out. If she is still heavy as an adult, you can reduce her calorie intake. |

| ![]() Shelby & Seymour get fed 3x a day..... and the are 4 years old. (We are on a schedule and have been following it for a LONG time) They each get 1/8 cup at 5:30 AM, 1/4 cup at 4:00 pm, and 1/8 cup about 8:00 pm. It is funny, but they seem to know what time it is........ they are "asking" for their food when it gets close to feeding time. ![]()

| ![]() The kibble may have mostly or all filler. Remember, they don't have to list what goes into the making of dog food. Sounds like they need something that is better and more nutritious.

Living My Yorkie Dream Donating Member | ![]() Well if any of my yorkies could be described as a piggy yorkie, it would be Lucky. He is 4 years old and within the last year or so he became quite a bit over weight. At his last vet visit, she was concerned that his weight could be affecting his knees. She estimated him at being almost 2 lbs over weight. So for the last year, we changed him over to diet/lean dog food (only the amount reccomended on the package) and cut way back on doggie snacks; not that they got alot, but now they get even less. I am happy to say that he is losing weight (it takes a while) and we even notice that he plays more often and is more active now. As for your 7 month old...... feeding 3 X a day is fine as long as you are not over feeding on the amount of intake. Does she eat it really fast? I understand that if they eat fast, they will feel hungry more often. Lucky eats his food in mere seconds; that is something we still need to figure out.....how to s-l-o-w him down.

| ![]() Thank you everyone for your responses. I was just a bit worried, as she gets about 1/4 of a cup each time I feed her. She eats at a normal speed I believe, not too quickly. I use to feed her 4 times a day, but it is kind of hard to keep that schedule as a student. Thank you again for your help, I think I will try 3 times a day for a few more months, and if I think she is gaining too much weight, then I will decrease the amount a bit, or try to up the exercise. |

| ![]() yes, I believe that sounds much better...a porky yorkie, lol. txrose, I am very happy to know that I am not the only one who couldn't free feed their dog, I think Sophie would eat any amount I put down. I don't mind her putting on weight if she needs it, I just worry because she was diagnosed with luxating patellas and I know the importance of her keeping a good weight to not make this condition worse. |
