YT 500 Club Member | Should I be worried about this patch? Should I be worried about this patch? The puppy is 4 weeks old right now. None of her littermates have it, and the owner says the pup's father had it for a week as a puppy, and that it hasn't been back since. It's been tentatively diagnosed as something similar to Athlete's Foot, but I don't think that makes sense. I have a vet appointment lined up for the pup this week, but I wanted to ask all of you experienced Yorkie owners in the meantime. Is this something I should be concerned about? FYI, I haven't purchased the puppy yet, but very much want to. She seems healthy aside from the patch (good appetite, outgoing, etc). The parents are healthy and don't have any "patch" issues. I heard that it could be a stress-related, hereditary condition, which makes me nervous. Any advice can you offer will be much appreciated! Donating YT 30K Club Member | Could it be ringworm? Can you call your vet and ask him what they think? Hopefully some experienced people will respond too.

YT 500 Club Member | Oh, I hope it's not ringworm. I do have a vet appt for later in the week, so I should have a definitive answer soon. So --- if it's ringworm, should I stay away from her? Or does she just need treatment? Is it safe to get another dog in the litter, or will she likely be a carrier as well? |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Sincs she is so young, I would think the breeder could get rid of it before bringing her home. I bought a gunea pig years ago that had ringworm and I had to take her in for sulfa baths and treat her at home. The petstore paid for all her treatment. It is contagious and I ended up getting it too and had to go to the dermatologist for ointment. Have you been to the breeders home? Does it look ok? I would see what the vet says and then decide. Good luck

| If it were me I would have the breeder get a diagnosis from the vet so I know for sure what it was that I would be dealing with before I made any committments to buy her. JMHO

YT 500 Club Member | Yes, that is exactly what I am doing. They were able to get her an appointment for Dec 22, and I'm going to go to the appointment as well. But in the meantime, I'm anxious to know!!! I haven't put any money down on her yet, but pending a good bill of health, she'll be mine! I just want to make sure that the patch isnt' anything serious first. I don't want to knowingly bring a contagious infection/disease into my home. |
