| What Would Cause This Much Sudden Hair Loss!?! I was just stroking Kayla on my knee and noticed she has lost a load of hair on her leg. It's like someones taken a grader to her and shaved her down! I groom Kayla everyday so I know she wasn't like this yesterday and there was definately no loss. I groomed her this morning and it wasn't like this either... so in a matter of 12 hours she's lost all this hair! What would cause this? The 4th photo is her other back leg so you can see how thick her coat is and how much she's lost.

| Her left front leg looks like the hair is thinner too.

Donating YT 10K Club Member | Well it's very sudden isn't it? So I don't know if my answer applies....but hair loss is a symptom of thyroid disease.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | How old is she? When Maya had hair loss they thought she had thyroid disease but it ended up to be Cushing's but that usually hits older dogs. Could she have chewed it off?

She's nearly 10months. I've not seen any excessive chewing, licking or scratching at all. That's what's so confusing about it.

Donating YT 10K Club Member | Do you see the hair? I don't mean on HER....more in her brush or when you run your hands through her hair? I can't get over how quickly it happened. I would think you would see her scratching if it were an allergy or she was pulling it out herself.

I know! I feel so bad because I know something isn't right, it's nothing to call the emergency vet about at 2am cuz I know they'd be PO'd at me but she's my baby and I wanna know what's wrong. Thinking about it, the only places I've seen her scratching are her ears.

| The only time I have ever seen a dog "drop" their coat like that is when they were traumatized by something. Like being in a strange kennel or being mistreated and abused. I think I'd take her in for a skin scraping to see if it could be mites.

| Those pictures remind me of how Stella's issues started. It makes me think she pulled the hair out and what didn't come out broke off. We still are inconclusive about her after $$$$ spent. Look at the little bumps you mentioned to see if they are like little pimples with puss because if so she could get/have a staph infection. Stella was/is very sneaky about the hair pulling. We've had skin scrapings, massive blood work etc....which comes out negative for mites or thyroid issues. I'll be looking for updates |

| Just got back from taking Kayla to the vets and it seems she has an allergy to something. She definatlely doesn't have fleas or anything which I was sure she didn't anyway. The vet said the hair that is left is course which means she's been licking at it and it would be bold if it's just dropped out. The little pimples are an infection from her pulling and licking at her leg. She's had a shot of antibiotics and another of antihystermines to make her more comfortable. She also has a weeks course in tablet form of both antibiotcis and antihystermines along with some treatment for fleas, ticks, mites and lice just so we can 100% rule those out. She has to go back in 2weeks if she's still doing it and then we're looking into the skin scrappings to try to find out what the allergy is. My vet suggested that if in two weeks it's no better I could try changing her diet over to chicken and rice and see if it's the proteins in her food that is causing it, which I think I'm going to have to read up about food allergies. She's wearing a head collar right now because I've not seen her licking so I don't know when she is doing it so tell her to stop so now she can't... she's less than impressed.
