| Dry Skin - Dull Hair My baby boy (Not so baby, he is 3) has in the last 3 months been scratching like a crazy person! I have treated him for fleas and use moisturizing shampoo. It looks as though his hair is getting thinner, and is looking extremely dull. Does anyone have any suggestions? It seems to go away for a couple of days after I bathe him, but it comes right back. I don't want to pay for a vet visit for them to tell me they don't know what is wrong, so I thought I'd try this first. Thanks! |

| My first question is - what are you feeding your dog? Why brand or are you on raw? It appears there COULD be a problem with nutrition - your baby may not be getting the nutrients he needs for healthy skin and coat. My first thought is to always look for the "input" if you are concerned with the "output."

| I have heard alot of good things about it but have never tried it. I use Life's Abundance and have never had a problem since I switched to it. My youngest had skin problems so I switched her to that and the others also got switched. Her dry skin/scaly problems cleared up. Have you tried supplements? I'm trying to think of alot of things here to assist you. I'm happy to send you some samples of the food I use if you want to try something different. You can research more on it at Welcome to Trilogy Otherwise I hope others will chime in! BTW - I'm a former Show-Me girl but still have a home down there at Lake Ozarks!!!! YAY! Welcome!

| Royal Canin really isn't a very good food. There are also a lot of people who have had their pups on it, and developed similar if not the same symptoms as you describe. How old is your baby? He/She could have developed allergies to the formula. I would suggest going to a high quality hollistic food or raw, and adding fatty acids such as Grizzly Salmon Oil to the food twice daily.

| I think you should take her to the vet. It could be a liver problem. Also as for the Royal Canin, you will read good and bad about all the foods. o is able to agree on them. I feed Royal Canin and have never had a problem. |

| Tessa has dry hair too and I've just come to the conclusion she is a cotton haired yorkie...I've tried Missing Link and Halo and she won't eat her food when I put that stuff in it. I also have her eating Wellness wet and dry food...I don't know what else to do and she is such a picky eater...drives me crazy... |

| I've made some progress! Quote:
My friend also said that his cat had the same problems Tucker does with the skin and fur, and his uncle (who is a vet and swears by Science Diet) told him to get the dry food for sensitive skin. He said that within a month he noticed a significant difference in the skin and fur health. Guess we will see where that gets me! | |

| Shampoo It is called "Fresh 'n Clean", and it is made by Lambert Kay. Make sure you get the one with Aloe in it! It even smells good, and is suppose to keep the smell up to two weeks! |

| Just so you can make a very educated choice, here are the ingredients in Science Diet's sensitive skin formula: Brewers Rice, Ground Whole Grain Corn, Corn Gluten Meal, Pork Meal, Dried Egg Product, Soybean Oil, Flaxseed, Animal Fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols and citric acid), Chicken Liver Flavor, Potassium Chloride, L-Lysine, Iodized Salt, DL-Methionine, vitamins (L-Ascorbyl-2-Polyphosphate (source of vitamin C), Vitamin E Supplement, Niacin, Thiamine Mononitrate, Vitamin A Supplement, Calcium Pantothenate, Biotin, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Riboflavin, Folic Acid, Vitamin D3 Supplement), Calcium Carbonate, Choline Chloride, Vitamin E Supplement, L-Tryptophan, preserved with Mixed Tocopherols and Citric Acid, minerals (Ferrous Sulfate, Zinc Oxide, Copper Sulfate, Manganous Oxide, Calcium Iodate, Sodium Selenite), Taurine, Beta-carotene, Rosemary Extract. The fact that rice and corn are the first three ingredients is very scary. You might want to consider something like Natural Balance Limited Ingredient Diet (VERY good for possible allergies) Here are the ingredients in that food: Sweet Potatoes, Salmon, Salmon Meal, Canola Oil, Potato Fiber, Natural Flavor, Salmon Oil (a source of DHA), Flaxseed, Potassium Chloride, Methionine, Choline Chloride, Natural Mixed Tocopherols, Taurine, Vitamin E Supplement, Iron Proteinate, Zinc Proteinate, Copper Proteinate, Ferrous Sulfate, Zinc Sulfate, Copper Sulfate, Potassium Iodide, Thiamine Mononitrate (Vitamin B-1), Manganese Proteinate, Manganous Oxide, Ascorbic Acid, Vitamin A Supplement, Biotin, Calcium Pantothenate, Manganese Sulfate, Sodium Selenite, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (Vitamin B-6), Vitamin B-12 Supplement, Riboflavin (Vitamin B-2), Vitamin D-3 Supplement, Folic Acid. That one is obviously sweet potato and fish. Great for skin problems!! Just a thought for you
