| Hope this helps. Tucker skin has been this way since I started him on Royal Canine, so I thought I would give this a shot.. Guess we will find out, huh? I'm not exactly sure whats wrong with corn and rice, haven't done much researching on it to be honest. A vet recommended it, so it can't be that bad, unless you're allergic. Also, here are some reviews I came across.. Hope our babies stop suffering soon! Simply the Best for Skin Problems! ★★★★★ "I have a 4 year old Pit Bull. He had been experiencing skin problems for quite a bit of time. I brought him to Vetenarian after Vetenarian and they could not pinpoint the problem. Recently one of the Vets said that he had Deep Pyoderma. This effects the skin's natural balance and causes it to flake and scale(dandruff). Occassionally this would in turn cause the flaky skin to ooze blood. It sounds gross but this is what my poor little man was facing. I felt bad and tried every possible dog food including Natural Balance, Merrick and now...""SCIENCE DIET SENSITIVE SKIN."" I immediately noticed a DRAMATIC change in a month. Thanks to Science Diet my dog leads a stress-free and skin-irritant free life. No longer do I have to worry about my dog itching and feeling unbalanced. I highly recommend this brand for skin problems!" 5.0 Simply the Best for Skin Problems! ★★★★★ "I have a 4 year old Pit Bull. He had been experiencing skin problems for quite a bit of time. Sheesh, if we only had the "right answer"!! Haha |

| Well, since dogs are carnivores (althought I whole-heartedly feel that fruits and veggies are good supplements to their diets, and they love 'em!!) the dog food you chose should really have more protein sources in the first few ingredients than grains. Corn is known for causing severe allergies, weight gain, poor hair coat, hair loss, dry skin, etc. Rice is not necessarily bad, but it's not a protein and brown rice is better. I would never feed pork to my yorkies, but that's personal opinion I guess. You really want to look for a food with protein (NOT by-products such as chicken by-product) and more specifically a protein meal, such as chicken meal. This is the chicken without the water weight. So a food with chicken as the first ingredient actually wouldn't have as much chicken as a food with chicken meal as the second or third ingredient. This has been said a million times, but I go over it here- vets are paid to sell Science Diet. Science Diet funds their limited nutrition classes in vet school. I am not saying this is bad, I am just saying most vet are not extensively trained in nutrition, nor is it their main objective. Like you said, you haven't researched canine nutrition much, but I would encourage you to do so. The dog food industry is REALLY scary right now, so it's our duty as our babies protectors to know exactly what is going into their little bodies.

| Also, remember that anything can have positive testimonials. I have my own testimonial, but won't go into that here. Dick Van Patten's Natural Balance® Pet Foods: Testimonials Our Family Scrapbook | Nature's Variety Nutro Products Super Premium Dog and Cat Food - please keep in mind Nutro has been deemed responsible for hundreds of pet deaths in the last couple years due to tainted dog food. I just put this here to show that there will always be positive comments, despite the product.

I feed Natural Balance Sweet Potato and Venison for kibble (lunch and snacks and travel) and feed Nature's Variety Raw all flavors for breakfast and dinner. I can show you some photos of one of my babies when I first got him, and then another only a month after NV raw. It's amazing!!

| Quoted from about.com... Corn, soy, and wheat are three of the biggest culprits as far as food allergies in dogs go, and finding a brand of dry dog food that is free of these ingredients can be tricky. Itchy, red, flakey skin, and a dull coat are common symptoms of food allergies. Always check the ingredients on your dog's food, and always check with your veterinarian to eliminate other health problems that may be causing dermatitis. Link here: About Dogs - Corn and Soy Free Dog Foods Hope that helped! There's TONS of information on reading labels and such online! I've read tons and tons of stuff in order to make some sort of informed decision! Wow.. you people are fast! LOLOL
