I personally don't trust petsmart for grooming, and i really wouldnt trust their vets, but thats just me. I'm sure i'm being sterotypical, but after working with a vet for 7 years, i know how things should be ran! but im sure they wouldnt have them if they werent safe/good.

| He needs a rabies booster this year (if he only had one as a pup so far) and then every 1-3 years after that depending on your state laws. I would not do this vaccine at the same time as another one. It can be hard on them and this is the vaccine with the most reactions. Heartworm testing...you probably need to follow your vet's protocol on this. If you take him off of med during the winter, he needs to be tested in the spring. If you don't take him off, some vets still test or test every other year. I would do at least one fecal a year. DAPP...yes on the one year booster but after this you don't need to give it every year. There is a lot of info about overvaccinating online. You can titer instead or give them every three years or never give it again after this time if you think he is protected for life (this is the newest info but hasn't really been researched enough...). Whatever you and your vet compromise on... We don't do non-core vaccines here. So no bordatella for us.

| I wish I would have found Jan Rasmusen's information before we did our vaccines. I tried finding things on the internet, even asked a friend who is my computer information source, but neither of us could find anything. I will be more responsible in the future. Thanks so much for the information. You were VERY helpful! Has anyone ordered this book???? How was it if so???? Thanks, Angie |
