This is just so hard. I want Ellie on something that really works. Synovi G3 contains liver and beef. The allergy formula doesn't but who knows what we will find out about the ingredients in a few months and I don't even know if studies were done on it.

Glycoflex is what my vet originally recommended for Lady years ago. I only switched when they came out with all those new formulas and most of them were double strength. It got so confusing I switched to Cosequin because I'd heard such great things about it. I am just amazed at the results.

I can't figure out why they would even put SLS in it. From what I understand, SLS is for cleaning and making shampoos foam.

I use Platinum Performance products- Platinum Performance Complete Joint. Canine CJ

I started my golden on the regular Platinum a year ago (without the extra joint support of the PP Complete Joint) and her regular right-hind limping completely quit. She is now on the PP Complete Joint. Platinum and Cosequin are the only products I trust, due to their solid research and testing, and their excellent customer support (including vets and nutritionists). The use of SLS is really scary, and if I used the product, I sure would be calling and raising a fuss about this.

Canine Wellness Formula + Complete Joint (CJ and i did not see SLS. DO YOU THINK THIS ONE IS BETTER THAN COSEQUIN?
I HAVE SAMMY ON COSEQUIN AND WAS ABOUT TO REORDER, BUT SEEING THIS I AM CONFUSED.

I personally feel that they are comparable products. The thing I like about the Platinum brand is that they offer so many formulas for different nutritional needs, such as Allergies, Joint Support, Skin and Coat, etc.

The CJ is in the base of the regular Wellness formula which is a base of fatty and amino acids, but the joint support agents are actually used in conjunction with other ingredients to optimize benefit.

Glucosamine Sulfate 525mg
Methylsulfonylmethane (OptiMSM™) 305mg
Boswellia serrata Extract 30mg
Cetyl Myristoleate 10mg
Hyaluronic Acid 10mg

I have used these products on my extremely high-level performance horses and can't beleive the difference they make. I know horses are different than dogs, but it has certainly made me believe in the product.

My vet recommended CosaminDS for Squirt's arthritis. I started him last March, and what a noticeable improvement. He's got his youth back.

I was just looking around Google and I see that the capsules do contain this but I don't see it as an ingredient in the chewables. The chewables do have garlic though, so I would not use them. Dasuquin (new Cosequin-type concoction) doesn't have this either. Then I was thinking maybe this is used to make the capsules...not the Cosequin itself. It seems that sodium lauryl sulfate can increase absorbtion of ingredients or something like that when the med is in a capsule form. It evidently can also be an ingredient in the capsule itself which most of our dogs don't swallow. So I am going to email Nutramax and ask.

Thank you! That would be great if that were the case! Lady has done so well on Cosequin I really don't want to switch.

Even if you don't want to use the capsules, Dasuquin I think is the same thing with extra ingredients minus garlic and SLS. That would probably work for her.

Yes we need to get to the bottom of this. I would like to stick with Cosequin, but I won't use it 'if' the SLS is in the actual powder.

Now I'm worried, I've been giving my almost 20 year old cat Cosequin for the past 2 to 3 months already. I have seen improvements in her and i would hate to no give it to her anymore.

A minute amount of sodium lauryl sulfate is used in the manufacturing of
the pharmaceutical grade hard gelatin capsules by the capsule manufacturer
to keep the capsule shells from becoming brittle and cracking during the
filling process and shipment of the product. Desiccant packets are placed
in the Cosequin bottles to absorb moisture, which keeps the product fresh
and extends shelf life to assure a fully active product. Without sodium
lauryl sulfate, the gelatin capsule would become brittle from moisture loss
and lead to broken and cracked capsules in the bottle. As a "sprinkle
capsule", the contents can be emptied from the gelatin capsule onto the
pet's food, and the empty capsule shell discarded.
