| 2 1/2 Year Old Yorkie With Arthritus Our 2 1/2 year old yorkie/shiatsu has ostia arthritis in her left front shoulder and arthritis in her right rear hip. It is so sad to see her not able to walk. It gets so bad she can't even bear weight on it. She is currently on Cosequin Capsules (glucosamine and chondroitin) 500mg/day and 25mg /day of Deramaxx. She had tried Metacam but it caused blood in her stool. Does anyone know of anything else that will work prescription or otherwise. The vet says the Deramaxx is the best one for her but I don't think so. Any help will be greatly appreciated by both myself and Molly ...thanks. Cheers Mike |

| So sorry to hear about your baby. Has anyone suggested Accupuncture or therapeutic massage or hydrotherapy? Handicap ramps to help her get on and off things might help. No jumping or running at all but slow short walks certainly should be encouraged to keep her mobile and proper weight.. I have no idea about the size and weight of your baby but if she is the LEAST bit overweight, reducing might give relief, too. Lying and sleeping on a warm pad could give comfort and the vet might inject steroids into the joints if the pain and mobility gets to be more of a problem.. Good luck with her and we will remember her in our prayers. |
