vinegar In search of a cheap, but effective flea repellent for your pooch? Then, try this: mix equal parts white vinegar and water together in a spray bottle, and apply the mixture directly to your dog's coat. Finish by working it in with your hands, and your pooch is protected from those pesky fleas. Why This Works Fleas hate the smell and taste of vinegar; and do their best to avoid it. hey that's not a bad idea. smelly but it would be safer for her. my Grandma used to use vinegar on our hair as cream rinse when we'd spend the night with her. of course it was diluted and you never smelled it once it was rinsed out. |

sorry ! sorry! but 4 myself if i read the precautions on the labels of most of those products... that i must not inhale or get it on my skin ...then ...the question is why would i put it on my bbys skin when he is under 10 lbs and i am over 100 and his skin is a ph balance of 7 and ours is 5.5 ? why would that be safe? if you research the chemistry on many products it really makes u wonder and the side effects over the life of ur bby 10 to 16 years of that stuff ingested or applied... i just find it questionable ??? |
I'm going to try the vinegar. I'm so frustrated watching her itch and scratch. It breaks my heart to see her so miserable. I've applied advantyx, flea powder and washed her in Dawn (not all on the same day, but over a course of about 4 days). I can't put anything else on the poor thing. I was pretty reluctant about the flea powder but I felt I had to do something for her. Where's the first frost???? I hate cold weather but at least there are less bugs. |
I think I may try this too, however, I have not noticed any fleas on Fiona for about a day now! YES!!!!!! :D |
I did the vinegar spray just a little bit ago. It does kill them on contact. Nice thing about it is that the smell doesn't last long and it does help sooth her skin. Although since that, I found one crawling on her so it must have found a spot I missed to hide in. I will continue with this because I know it won't harm her and I can't really give her anything else at this point without risking becoming toxic. At least I can still pet her and know that if she's licking or chewing herself it can't hurt her. I feel like I've spent hours on this problem now for the past week or so trying to help her feel better. It's very frustrating not being able to help her instantly. I think she knows I'm trying to help her but getting tired of me fiddeling with her. She's forgiving though since she's laying here next to me!! :aimeeyork |
I read an article a few weeks ago that dogs with dark coats attract fleas quicker than the ones with the light coats. Don't know how true this is but Bailey had one crawling on his head yesterday after being outside. We searched for more and couldn't find any so I'm hoping the Vectra is working. The breeder had him on Anvantix but my Vet had stopped using it. It is worse here in the south this year though. Not only the fleas but with wild mushrooms popping up all over the yard. Yikes! |
Max is on K9 Advantix (knock on wood) NO fleas here:th umbup: |
That's what I use. But for some reason this month it doesn't work. Maybe it was a bad batch!! |

U get a spray bottle and put white vinegar and water ( we use boiled water that is cooled) 50/50...then u get a white towel ..put ur bby on the towel..and we spray the comb with the vinegar mix and comb her with that if u see a flea u can spray it ..but not on her face or eyes..just use the comb..u can leave it on her |

All the bugs leave my baby alone now that he is on K9 Advantix. I get ours from Drs. Smith and Foster via ebay. Almost half price of the vets office. He was on Frontline before. What does you vet or groomer say to do? Maybe the groomer has a suggestion? . |
