| i've just got my new yorkie a week ago her name is angel, she is 5 months plus now the breeder told me that, they feed her 3 spoons per day they feeding her once per day after i brought her home, i change the feeding method to twice a day ( 1 and half spoon per time) but angel seems cant finish the food.. now even worse.. she cant even finish 2 spoon per day im wondering if is because previously the time btw for her to eat is too long that makes her too hungry and jst finish the food which they feed? or there is something wrong with her? everytime i feed her, there will be about 15 kibbles left i don't think she is too full cause if i hand feed her, she will eat it playfully ![]() =.= thanks for any feed back

| First of all congrats on your new puppy! ![]() When I first got my puppy at 3.5months, I fed her 1/2 cup of kibble a day. I divide it to 4 meals per day. Now that she is 5months, I feed 3/4 cup per day, 3 times a day. I prefer feeding my baby several times a day to avoid making her super hungry and prevent throwing up due to acid reflux when stomach is empty. But when she turns 10 months I plan to feed her twice a day. If I may ask, What food are you giving her? and how much does she weigh?

When it comes to feeding Chino, I just pour it in the dish and let him eat when ever he wants to. He eats throughout the day, but a bite here and there. I do notice I only have to feed him once every two days if that. Is this okay or am I suppose to pick his food up? | |

| Think of it this way: You eat 3 times a day, with a snack. Let's say you eat a total of 2 lbs. of food (easy numbers) between the meals. Your stomach can handle this ... it's only .5 lbs. per meal. Now, for some reason or other, you find that instead of 4 meals a day, you're only getting 2. You're still getting 2 lbs. of food, but now it's 1 lb. at a time instead of .5 lbs. Your stomach can't HOLD 1 lb. - it's used to .5 lbs. - and it can't stretch that far. You eat all you can, but there's food left over, and because you can't eat it, you start to lose weight ... even though you're still offered the same amount. Your pup can't eat that much in one sitting. Her stomach is too small ... that's why babies (of any species) eat small meals many times a day. If you're only feeding the pup twice a day because you don't have the time to try 3 times or more, then the suggestion Yorkisme made is a *very* good one: put the food down in a bowl, make sure there's a big bowl of water, and let the pup eat as she gets hungry. A little munch here, a little munch there - eventually all will be gone without hurting her stomach. Good luck with your new pup. |

| Wow, she's beautiful and TINY So is her tummy A pup that size, imho, should be free-fed. They need to nibble all the time.Congrats on your baby girl, she's really adorable

| YT 2000 Club Member | I agree with the others that you should let her free feed escpecially being that small. My little 4 pound toy poodle free feeds and she only nibbles a few times a day cause her tummy is so small. I also offer Lexee some wet food everyday just to make sure she is getting enough to eat. Im petriefied of hypoglycemia. Welcome to YT and congrats on your new puppy. She is gorgeous!!

| If this were my pup I would #1 get a 'better quality' brand of food, as Euk. is not the greatest. Once I got a better food, I would measure the proper amount needed for the day, then I would count out the pieces so I know how many we started with. Then I would put all that kibble into the bowl and leave it for her to eat and snack on all day long. Pups use so much energy throughout the day that it really is best to let her have the choice to eat a few kibbles when ever she wants. Next, I would probably find a really good wet food and offer a little wet in the AM and PM. Also, plain (or vanilla) nonfat (preferably organic) yogurt is good to give as well. Maybe just a teaspoon (or a little less) |

| Please remember that the OP is from Malaysia ... "quality" food (by our pet store standards) is hard to come by, and there are limited choices. Considering alternatives, Eukanuba may not be so bad ... . We, in the States, have a lot to choose from. Other parts of the world - not so much. Last edited by Lee B; 10-08-2008 at 06:17 AM. |

Honey, if you live in Kuala Lumpur you should be able to get REALLY good food. I know for a fact that Pet Safari in Mutiara Damansara (near Ikano/IKEA) has at least Innova. I lived in Malaysia for 9 years 4 years in Penang Island, 5 years in KL. Even if you live somewhere else, you can probably get the stores to send to you - shipping cost is minimal. Even to Sabah (across the ocean, mind you) you can get RM 1 per kg. If you live in the West Coast, even cheaper. It's all a question of looking. If you want to buy bulk, go down to KL, buses are cheap! If I can get Orijen for my girls, I'm sure you can get more brands of better foods than I do. Please keep in mind Malaysia is a developing country, while mine is a 3rd world country. You can even get food from Singapore - the shipping cost won't be outrageous. You can also get the 8oz measuring cup in most supermarkets - JUSCO will surely carry them. Malaysia is very westernized - lots of expats everywhere. You should be able to find loads of good stuff for your baby.

| Remember that the yorkie has a really small stomach, so it doesnt take much to fill them. I free fed all of mine, and find that they have a great body weight. They eat very little but I no that they are getting enough. Good luck and your little 1 is so beautiful.

| Takis (my york) had the same bad habit. you can look at my post for other people's suggestions. I tried all of their suggestions / tactics but he just wouldnt it. So I found another way. When your york is away from her food (around 10 steps) get some food in your hand and go near her. Give her one piece (only one piece at a time) and when she eats it go to steps closer to her bowl. Do this until you'll right by her bowl and drop the last piece (of food) on her bowl. If she doesnt eat and you're sure she's not full just leave the food there and go away. Repeat the next time. If she does eat it from her bowl stand about 8 steps far from her bowl next time and drop 2 pieces of food in her bowl. It might take several days or even weeks for her to learn (females learn easier but are very stubborn), but don't give up!! Good Luck with Angel

| When my puppy wouldn't eat, the vet recommended to sprinkle a little parm cheese on top (like you'd put on your pasta). |
