Well, I'm planning to have the vet check her mouth too, but you should see extra teeth. Extra front teeth are easy to see, but I'm thinking back ones would probably be more difficult. My dad's boston/rat terrier mix had several extra teeth in the front, and it was obvious!! The adult teeth will come in, even if they have to push on the baby tooth and make their own way (unfortunaly most likely resulting in a crooked permanent tooth). If the baby teeth don't come out like they're supposed to, there will be a baby and a permanent both....looks funny because one is pushed to the front or side, but definitely too many teeth for that one space! The baby ones have to be extracted because food is more likely to get stuck in the spaces between the permanent and baby teeth than it is between 2 permanent teeth. And if food sticks there, the tooth will decay, and decay means a possible painful/sensitive tooth and can even lead to infections/abscesses (just as in humans). Plus, I'm thinking the baby teeth are more likely to decay anyway since they weren't meant to be a permanent tooth??
Bella's front left dewclaw (or a portion of it anyway...it's VERY small) grew back!! I found out who the breeder used as a vet and called him. He said that he would re-do it at no charge, but that I should wait until she has all her permanent teeth in first so if she does need extractions she'll only have to be sedated the one time rather than multiple times. Bella saw my favorite vet yesterday morning (she has a little acid reflux, so I wanted to find out what I needed to do so she doesn't get any permanent damage from that), so I asked him about when all her teeth should be in. He said they normally have all their teeth completely in by 8 mo. but that I should wait until she's 10 mo. just to be sure. (The only reason I'm having her dewclaw re-done is because it seems to be sensitive...it bothers her when I touch it, and it isn't infected or anything like that. As small as it is and the fact that it's sensitive makes me think that maybe only a portion of it grew back and not the whole thing??
