| In pain when pooping? I almost had a heart attack just now. I was taking a nap in the living room and Lucky started to yelp really loud. I noticed that Lucky has been yelping in pain whenever he pooped recently. This has been going on for the past couple weeks and I don't know what is causing it. One time he was running around in pain while yelping when he was taking a poop. I hate it when he does that, I end up with poop in three different places. I feel so bad for him. Could it be worms or could it be the food I'm feeding him. I just feed him dry food and occasionally some dried chicken chips as a treat. He's seems fine after he's done releasing.. his waste. Should I take him to the vet?

| My motto is better safe than sorry. I'd take him to the vet. Simon went through this a little as a puppy and turns out he was just a little constipated so he was straining. Yea, I'd take him just to check for other issues. Keep us posted! |

| You mentioned this has been going on for the past couple of weeks. Id say a vet visit is in order asap.

| Anal glands can get inflammed and they can get an impaction which is very hard stool. Safest to take to the vet. |

| I'd take him to the vet - sounds like impacted anal glands to me. They'll have to be cleaned out (you DO NOT want to do this yourself - it's really icky) and if they are infected, meds. It doesn't sound like it has to do with the food - I think they just have problems sometimes. Let us know what happens! Best of luck. |

| I agree with the saying "better safe than sorry". Although if he is constipated, next time as a home remedy.. you can give him 1/4 tsp of Pumpkin. (not pumpkin pie filling).. just regular pumpkin that you can buy @ ralphs in the fruit isle. good luck and i hope your pup is ok! |

| when milo was just 4-6 months , he had the same problem, scared us silly, we took him to the vet, found out the hair around the anal opening was sticking together, when he went to poop the hair was sticking and caused his yelping in pain, vet trimmed the hair and all was fine, i hope this helps , but as everyone advised take him to the vet. |
