| Spay...8 months...Nervous MOM Hiya all. I started talking about this in another topic but I figured I should just make a separate thread for it. Spaying my Izzy. She is around eight months. Never been in heat that I know of. She is around 6-7 pounds. I scheduled the spay for thursday. This thursday. I just want to know what to expect. How will she act after the spay? How will she feel? Will she want to lie around all the time or will I have to keep her from being active. Will she pee or poop a lot? Will she just go anywhere or will she wait to be taken out? Will she be more needy or will she sleep a lot? Should I expect bleeding? How will her attitude change? She is a calm puppy most of the time and doesnt cry or whine much unless she wants me...or wants to play. Will she eat? Drink? Or will I have to force feed her? Will she scratch at her stitches? Can she scratch them? Will a onesee work or will I need a cone? She I have the onesee tight? Or will that irritate her stitches? What about the second day? will she pee a lot? Will I see blood in her stool or urine? If I do will that be normal? Will the area bruise or keloid? What other things should I worry about or be concerned about? |

Donating YT 10K Club Member | If you are picking her up later that afternoon...generally she will probably be sleepy and nap a good part of the evening. Your vet will advise light feeding and water to insure she doesn't get sick from the anethestic. They will probably send you home with a cone...those make dogs miserable. I'd suggest using a onsie. Be sure to get some pain meds for that evening and you may wish to give her one the day after too. By day two....all of mine have acted like nothing occurred the day before. You can have her groomed before her spay. After her surgery you'll need to wait 10 days before getting the area wet. Wishing her a speedy recovery.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Roxie was spayed a few weeks ago and came home the same day. She was sleepy but hungry and did really well. She did get some swelling a few days later due to her false pregnancy and needed a little steroid but overall did really good. Within 2 days I couldn't keep her down! I think you are doing the right thing by getting her spayed before she goes into heat. I will keep her in my prayers and let us know how she is doing.
