Hello all, I just got a 8 weeks old pup. She is very tiny (~1lbs). I'm not sure if I can give her a bath yet as the breeder told me I should wait until she is 10-12 weeks before I give her a bath. I never had a pup that is so small before, so I wanted to make sure not to hurt her. Please advise.

I bathed my two yorkies at that age. They were 1 pound 4oz, and 1 pound 1oz at 8 weeks. I'm not sure how big your baby is but I would be really careful not to let her get to hot or to cold if you do bathe her. If you have a "tiny" yorkie that might be why the breeder might want you to wait, because they can use up alot of energy trying to maintain their body temperature. Little ones just have smaller reserves to draw on. You can alway use a warm wet wash rag to clean her up. Its warm enough out here this week she should dry quickly. Don't know if I helped but good luck with your little one.

I bathe our puppies at about 4 weeks. I don't put them into a sink of water, just use a rubber hose sprayer to wet their bodies a little and use a very small amount of puppy shampoo. I don't wash their heads at this age or get water anywhere near their noses.

Usually young puppies don't need to be scrubbed. They just need to be rinsed a little. You want to make this experience as pleasant as possible. So if you don't have a sprayer, just use a warm wet washcloth to wipe the puppy's body. No need to use shampoo.

Always dry first with a towel, and keep them warm. Then hold a hair dryer about 2 feet away and gently blow dry. Fluff the hair with your other hand so it dries to the skin. Only wash during the day and preferably when it is warm so they don't get chilled.

Then a nice brushing with a "pin brush", lots of compliments and praise, and a treat when all is done.

You can wash the puppy just dont use any hash shampoos (no flea Shampoo yet)

When I brought Cassiopia home (she was 12 weeks old), I was told to wait at least 2 weeks before giving her a bath so that she can be better adjusted to her new home. If your new furbaby is starting to smell, you can buy puppy wipes at Petco or Petsmart. Also, you can probably just wash their paws for now to get them better adjusted to the water and for future bathing. Hope this helps.

A great tip I picked up from a YTer recently was to microwave a towel to wrap your puppy in when they've had their bath - I did this and Twinkle stopped shivering right away. xxxx

Looks like everyone has a different opinion on how old a puppy should be before a bath.

as a breeder I start bathing my pups at 4 weeks old, but my puppies stay home until 12 weeks, and they get a bath the day or the day before they go home, so I tell all my parents to wait two weeks before they give them their first bath at home, to keep stress of new home to a minimum. i use puppy shampoo all the way unti they are one year old too.

My puppy wasn't bathed until I got him at 12 weeks. If your breeder bathed them I think you should be fine to wait a few weeks. Use puppy wipes or a warm wash cloth for spot cleaning. I had to bathe max because he was filthy XD I did it the night we got him home.

Thank you for the tip! Last time I bathed Dex poor thing shivered so much it was heartbreaking. I will try that next time
