![]() Yes as if I wasn't having enough life problems atm with my husband losing his job, my cairn is allergic to staph and in the midst of a raging staph infection, my rottie tore a thigh muscle and now my little over a year old female yorkie has bilateral lp grade 2. I am devastate. Yes this is a second opinion too. The first Vet said grade one in one knee but referred me to a surgeon for surgery so I wrote her off as insane. But I know this Vet and know she knows her stuff so there is no question in my mind about this. To make matters worse, my baby weighs 3.9 pounds and not the 5 pounds the other Vet has been telling me for months. I thought she looked awful small for 5 pounds!!! To me, breeding her under 5 pounds is unacceptable and compounded with bilateral lp just confirms it 1000000x. I was so certain she was going to be fantastic that I have her boyfriend here already paid off and loved too death. I was only ever going to do one litter and then spay but now it will never be. It's just so disappointing. Pantera (my girl), moves fine for grade 2. You would never know to look at her. The Vet saw how floored I was and I think is giving it time to sink in before she talks any further to me about it. As far as I know right now there are no surgery plans. I have started her on glucosamine (prescription and not over the counter) and plan to put all my dogs on it. My Rottie has been on it. I guess I need to my peace with the spaying part and schedule that for September or October as her heat cycle just ended a week or so ago. ARGH! Then I will need to decide about my male I guess. To neuter or not. He's 5 months old now and I could grab him before he starts the leg hiking. UGH!!!! Last edited by meli; 08-27-2008 at 05:42 PM.

![]() I'm so sorry about your furkids. I would get the male neutered too. Maybe schedule them for the same day so you only have to go through the taking care of them part once. I had mine done at the same time and it worked out great.

![]() I agree - spay and neuter them both and enjoy them as pets. There are still the same loving Yorkies you always had ![]()

| ![]() I know you are disappointed but I just wanted to let you know that I have a Yorkie that is 13 years old and she has had a grade 2 LP in both knees for most of her life and it has never gotten worse and she has never needed surgery!! Hope this makes you feel a little better!

![]() Oh that is good to hear! She walks as normal as can as far as I can assess so I was confused as to how it can be grade 2 and not have any outward symtoms. I have come to peace rather quickly with spaying her and neutering my male at the same time asap. She has just come out of her heat cycle so I need to wait a few weeks but then we will go ahead with her surgery. I have gone through being a recpient of a show dog with some bad genetics healthwise and refuse to become a contributor to that sort of game. He was an awesome champion but heathwise he is a bit of a disaster like so many show bred animals become (he is closely linebred). He has cost me an endless amount of money and his temperment is horrid as an adult (he's a fear biter.) She was bought as a pet and will be finalized as a pet very soon. I just need to setup the appointments and I will feel better. Thanks for letting me know that your dog is fine with grade 2. My mind was racing with the unknown.
