| Layla was given pork- should i worry? We love Layla's babysitter- she has the purest heart and when she gave her labs pork today- she said she gave layla a few tiny pieces. Should I worry? This was probably around 2:30-3. I told her that i don't like Layla to have pork because it is fatty- but i didn't want to make her feel bad. Anyways... what COULD the implications of this be and what should i watch for? She seems fine- she ate her kong and is sleeping due to the LARGE amounts of playing she did today Any help is great thanks! |

| It is best not to give dogs Pork as they many breeds have trouble digesting it. In fact, pork does more harm than good! I do not even suggest giving your dogs pig ears. I am sure Layla is going to be fine since she only had very little but please make sure you let the babysitter know not to again.

| What could it cause? Pancreatitis. A few tiny pieces probably won't though and dogs aren't allergic to it or anything.

| Thanks Crystal. I was on here reading about pork and many people said just a small piece set off their dogs. Do you think it would have bothered her by now? How long can i worry before I know it is no longer an issue? I don't want to be up all night worrying about her if the "worry" period is already over! |

| I'm not sure, Marci! I sure hope it doesn't bother her at all.

She had been eating it for a few days and then one morning woke up with it, so I'd say 24 or so hours. Pork won't set every Yorkie off and it depends how lean it is. Ellie's nutritionist said I could feed it to Ellie as her protein (before pancreatitis was diagnosed). While I don't think it should be given to Yorkies on purpose, larger dogs may do just fine with it in their diet. It really depends on the dog. You will hear that turkey sets dogs off too. Ellie eat lean, white meat turkey with no problems AFTER her bout with pancreatitis and does just fine with it. But then she seemed to do bad on beef. So, it isn't an exact science.

I'm only going on Ellie ate beef the night before and was puking the next morning. I could be shorter or longer. I don't think I'd feed anything else with fat today if you are really concerned.

| Hello I've never heard that pork could do any harm to dogs, specially if you take off all the fat on it I give well done chopped pork regularly to my girls and not once they've had a problem... And I must add that Maggie is allergic to red meat and Hannah is allergic to poultry |

| If I'm not mistaken, Fromm makes either a kibble or canned dog food with pork now. Also, I think Hills I/D has some pork in it. Cindy & Coco |
