| Dandruff?? Hi all, I just noticed about a day ago that Cookie has been having little white flakies on her body, more along her back. I did not think much of it, but as I brushed her today I could clearly see it was a lot of dandruff! Im upset now and I noticed shes been somewhat itchy, but I don't think its caused by food allergies (possibly dry skin allergies?) I feed her Nature's Recipe, and I use a shampoo called Fresh n Clean. I have NOT used conditioner on her. Should I be? Would that fix the dandruff? Or could it be caused by the shampoo Fresh n Clean? Please help! Thanks in advance

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | It could be from so many things - esp. this time of year. Natures Recipe tends to have quite a bit of grain in it and isn't considered a premium kibble, so you could try a different kibble. If it were me, I'd probably move to a kibble w/ better ingredients (less grain) and supplement with Eicosaderm (fish oil + vitamin E) from vetamerica.com. Some kibbles I'm fond of are Orijen, Natures Variety Instinct, Wellness Core, Canidae.

| You could try using dandruff shampoo until you start to see the dandruff go away. I use Espree shampoo & conditioner and love it but there are also many out there that are good too. I also pop a gel cap of fish oil into their food for their skin. Also, maybe a better quality food would work as well. I feed mine Canidae lamb & rice. |
