How Much Does It Cost For Spaying?

my animal hospital says that when my puppy gets spayed at six months that she has to stay overnight. is this necessary? i trust myself taking care of her more than a vet that i just met. however, i don't want my current vet getting mad at me for doubting his "sage wisdom".

btw, this wisdom included >50% corn in food is perfectly healthy (and recommended) as well as that small dogs like yorkies have no more trouble getting potty-trained than other breeds. and yes, i'm switching to a different vet (the one originally recommended to me but whom i wasn't able to secure an appointment with for vaccines).

Abbey was spayed today and it was 300$ but she also had 5 teeth pulled and she was microchipped. Also, most vets will do pre-op blood work and an IV and these can be optional. I elected to h ave the blood work done and that added about 100$. If she had ONLY done the spay it prob would have been 100$ total. Also, I dropped her off at 9am and didn't get to pick her up til 5pm. The wait was agonizing but it's good for them to be a while after they wake up. Everything varies though depending on the vet.

I would only leave her overnight if there is someone there monitoring the dogs 24/7. Otherwise...I wouldn't leave her there unsupervised.

Abbey was spayed this afternoon and she is home with me now and I am watching her. I feel better that she is here with me bc I know I will watch her 24/7. I would not leave the dog there unless someone is going to be with her at all time. Some vets do not have overnight workers to stay with the dogs so make sure to ask that.

I called and asked my vet how much they charge and they told me that it is close to $200 for everything, including the antibiotics. They say that we drop them off first thing in the morning and pick them up at 4:30pm the same day. My husband told me that the SPCA spays/neuters for close to nothing. Has anyone heard that? I left a message on their phone asking the cost and if they give us the antibiotics, etc. The message that they leave says that there is a non refundable $20 deposit that we have to give to make an appointment. Hmmm. I noticed that a lot of people have been having their yorkies teeth pulled. Why? Are they too close together? Maybe their breath wouldn't be as stinky if their teeth were not so close together?

I think it all depends in the area. I paid 450 for spaying, pulling one tooth, microchip, and meds. Yes, the SPCA or your local humane society is really cheaper. It was going to cost me only 140 to get Lola spayed and microchiped at the humane society but they would not do the tooth extraction nor give me any meds, so I decided to go to my regular vet instead and pay the extra money in order not to have to put lola under anesthetia for the tooth later. In your case if you do not have to do anything else but the spaying, I think the spca could work well.

Kiwi was spayed this month. It cost approximately $350 including removing 5 of her baby teeth. She did not have to stay overnight at the vet. She came that same evening and we all gave her lots of TLC!

Yorkie pups sometimes need remaining baby teeth pulled that don't fall out on their own, otherwise there will be adult teeth growing in around them. Pain, bad breath and bite problems are all possible if the baby teeth are left. It is done during spay/neuter so they don't have to be put under twice.

While some SPCA clinics are probably great, they need to have a good surgical protocol. Are they using the best anesthesia (Isoflurane or Sevoflurane to maintain and possibly something like Propofol to intubate), doing surgery on a heated surface, offereing pre-op blood work, giving pain meds and maybe antibiotics... Also, some of those clinics use doctors that just graduated and are doing it as sort of an internship. I'm sure most are just fine at it but I would prefer more experience.
