Hercules is currently 3.8 pounds. He was 2 pounds when I got him. I have always fed him 1/4 cup two times a day, once in the morning and once in the evening. These times will also most likely coincide with when you would put your little girl in the crate. Just make sure there is enough time for her to go to the bathroom in the morning before you go to work. I wake up extra early so I have time to play with Hercules, as well as feed him. Can't wait for the pics of Nina!! Brandi & Hercules | |

| Maybe a good idea Good luch with your new little one. I had a really great experience with a puppy chiuhuahua recently and plan to do it again when I get my new yorkie girl........I originally used an infant playpen.....(get one at a yard sale or flea market)....gives them a bit more room than a crate...and placed the pee=pee pads at the far end...away from her bed and food. She soon got tired and frustrated with the playpen so I bought a 2 ft high "yard-pen" at Pet-Smart....it is something like 4 ft square on each side.....it is easy to put up and take down.....I put the puppy in the pen with food and water at opposite ends than pee-pee pad. I also bought a heating pad and placed it SAFELY under the padding on her bed and turned it on 'low' and just left it on..SHE LOVED IT!!!!!!!! When I was away from home I put her in the pen....(on UNCARPETED FLOOR) and she would run to her bed and snuggle up. It took NO TIME to train her to the paper. I also kept a pee-pee pad in the living room and she always goes to it...the best luck I have every had in training a puppy. I'm afraid a crate is too small for long periods of time...unless you get a giant crate. I now keep a heating pad turned on low on the couch....she stays out of the pen all the time now and just stays up under that heating pad if not playing or eating.....or snuggling in my lap. (the heating pad is in a fleece dog bed pad with a zipper.) She will go outside if the weather is warm and dry....but really prefers to be in the house. If you have trouble with the puppy "tearing up" the pee-pee pads..Pet-Smart also has a "frame" to put the pad in to avoid puppy ripping / running. GOOD LUCK!!!!! |

| That's what i will do...i will buy a play pen for Mojo. But kids playpen are too wide on the frame and Mojo can still get out. I had bought a baby gate, which, only worked for a few minutes, until my lil boy figured out how to jump without even touching it...hehehe AvBorges: Mojo was about the same weight as yours at that age. When he came here, he was almost 5 months and weighted a little less than 5lbs. Now he is about 7.5lbs...a big strong boy Here is a pix of him before coming here...and i know, he is wearing a "girls" bow... lets just say the breeder had some explanation to do when i saw it...hehehe http://www.megagaleria.com/pictures/Pic_701_2.jpg |

| Babbie: No, I am not brazilian, but my breeder and puppy is! What I do for Cashmere, is keep her in the hallway bathroom, w/ a baby gate. I took up all the rugs and her crate with padding is left w/ the door open, so she can go in when she likes. "Scented" newspaper is on one end of the room, while her bowls are on the other. She has about 15 toys scattered about as well. I also keep the radio on all day for her, as well. I do not confine her to the crate b/c hypoglycemia can be brought on by stress, and when I first got her, she seemed so...."traumatized" I couldn't bear confining her. I was petrified to come home and find the worst...Now, don't get me wrong, she enjoys the crate as well. Sometimes I will walk past the bathroom, and she'll be tucked inside . I brought her to work w/ me the first week, due to having to make sure she would eat (vs just leaving food down) and so she could get used to me. Now she stays home all day by herself like a big girl! I come home on my lunch breaks to feed her, and make sure she's fine. Haven't had any problems w/ hypoglycemia since the first week THANK GOD! Also, I feed her 1/4 cup a day, b/c that's the recommended amount on the side of the RC bag. The first week, the vet recommended Hills a/d for her b/c she was tiiiiiny when I got her, she looked like a kitten So she had 65% dry and 35% wet. Doesn't sound like you'll have the same problems I had though! Here's some pics of my sweet baby, I'll add more later...

| That is how i feel about crating Mojo...he goes nuts. I didn't have the same problems you had, but thank God Cashmere is okay now...she is gorrrgeous!! Just out of curiosity, do you know the name of the kennel she came from? I am getting a female later on this year, also from Brazil, i will probably wait until she is about 5 months to bring her...i think the younger they are, the more stressfull it is for them, Mojo adapted really fast, and my friend also bought a puppy from the same litter that came 2 months later and he adapted even faster!! |

| Hi Everyone, After reading all the advice from all of you, here's what I did yesterday... I went to petco and bought Nina cute food/water pots, toys, treats, bed, more Royal Canin 28, some canned food to give it a moist and some proteins, a pen, brush, books, etc. I set her up in the kitchen. Her little bed is in one side and the peeing pad in the opposite side. Here's what I noticed... Nina does not like to pee in her space (even tough is big enough and she doesn't have to stay close to the peeing pad if she doesn't want to). She waits until she is out of her den to pee or poop.. Also, she didn't even touch the Royal+canned food mix. She's not eating at all and I am a little concerned. Other than that, she is very playful with me and has a lot of energy, surprisingly. Yesterday, I gave her treats and she learned how to sit at my command and now I'm training her to stand up! I want to teach her how to roll over, but I still don't know how... I'm at work now and she's home alone. Mom's heart is aching!! I miss her already! |

| Did you say you are feeding Nina the RC Yorkshire and not the RC puppy? I was under the impression that they should be on the puppy version until 10 about 10 months because it is better for growing puppies. It probably isn't that important, but if anyone knows, I am curious what the difference is? |

| She doesn't like RC... and I wasn't sure there was a puppy version. My struggle is that I don't have the food she was getting in Brazil. It's not available in the US. Now I have to try all sorts of different foods. It seems to me that so far, the only thing she likes is the Iams moist food for puppies that comes in the yellow packet! |
