Poop Times I'm curious how long everyone's puppy takes before it goes poops after it eats. My puppy takes more than 3 hours. I always thought they relieved themselves 30 min- 1hr after eating. So, is 3-4 hrs normal? Needless to say, he pooped in his crate last in the middle of the night. I thought he went before he we went to bed. I took him outside and it was dark and I couldn't really tell. Time to get more lighting. I feel so bad for him. I even took him out at 2am. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Ringo, How old is he? I would think that as he grows he will get a schedule of pooping and you will know what to expect.. As puppies its a little hard to determine when they'll go but most do go a short while after they eat.. Welcome to the group.. I haven't been here too long myself and have thoroughly enjoyed it.

Hi Prissy! He's 12 weeks old. I am writing down a daily log to see if I can see a pattern. He's been home for 3 days and it was just crazy over the weekend.....but I know he goes every 3-4 hrs. He's on Pedigree Puppy (breeder had him on it) and I have added a little Nutro to it but he hates it. He just picks around it. I want him on some quality food.

The pedigree could very well be the problem. I used it one time and my yorkies went more frequently. I currently have mine on Nutro Natural Choice and I think its one of the good foods out there. Of course puppies go several times a day anyway and you'll notice that it gets less frequently as he gets older. My adults only go once a day... usually first thing in the morning and I free feed them.. They basicly set their own schedule when they want to eat.. Of course these are only my opinions and based on my experiences.. I've had yorkies for 6 years and have loved every minute. Just continue to decrease the pedigree and increase the Nutro and he'll come around with the Nutro.

when we first got archie, he seemed to go all the time, but now, he goes 2 or 3 times a day. the important thing is to make sure that they know that these are the times you are taking them out, and to set a schedule. At 9 each night, Archie gets ready to go out, and he will wake me up in the morning to take him out. During the afternoon, he's usually with my boyfriend and they often go outside anyway. I leave food out for Archie all the time so I have no clue what time he actually eats. In an emergency, he goes in the bathroom on a wee wee pad (this last bit is an anomoly...we didn't really train him to go to the bathroom in the bathroom. he sort of just picked up that habit by himself and i put down a wee wee pad in there after i noticed that he seemed to like going there). When we got archie, he was eating pedigree and seemed to go a lot more. now, i feed him wellness. some of the natural foods have more nutrition and less elimination.
