| Evidently Ellie is Allergic to Otomax This is more of a vent than anything. Ellie had a yeast infection in her right ear. The vet said it was swollen. She prescribed Otomax because Ellie did well with it a year ago. Otomax was to be used twice a day and Chlorhexiderm once a day for cleaning (we use Chlorhexiderm often with no problem). Three days after starting Otomax, the ear being treated became very sensitive. I don't see any blisters but you can barely touch some areas with a Q-tip without making her yelp. This isn't deep in the canal either. It is the visable surface. The vet said to stop cleaning it and if it isn't better in a day, she needs to see her again. It isn't better. Ellie is so sensitive to some things. So to the vet we go again. Thanks for listening.

| Oh no! Poor baby! Sorry you have to make another trip to the vet, but maybe she can find a solution for her this time. That has to be miserable for her.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Poor baby. Last time I was at the ER with Maya there was a lady there with the cutest little Havanese puppy and she was on Otomax and was having a bad reaction to it, that's why they were at the er. She said since she was on it she was very lethargic and seemed depressed, no interest in anything. They weren't sure but it started when they put her on the meds. I hope your baby feels better soon.

| Let me tell you about the most wonderful ear remedy. I really should start a separate post about this - we have used this for 4-plus years. When I adopted Bubba from his previous owner, he came with some type of ear medicine - as it was said he has chronic ear infections/ear problems. I went to my holistic vet and he looked at the prescription medicine and was told this medicine was not getting rid of this ear problem. My vet gave us the most wonderful stuff - I was skeptical - but it works fast - and as Bubba does have chronic ear issues, we do have to use it like just once a mth now, just to keep it under control. Pavia Natural Wound Care -- is the name of this wonderful stuff - check out this website and the comments and testimonials Pavia Products For Pet and Horse Owners (866) 593-0790

| Penny had an infection last week. Took her to the vet. It was yeast and bacteria. The vet gave her Zymox. Once a day for 7 days in infected ear....then once/ week in both ears after bath.....to keep anything from growing in the ears. Seems to be working well.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Do they tell you how they get yeast infections in the ears? Do they get this after being on antibotics, or does it just come around suddenly?

| I think there are different reasons and it isn't always avoidable. One of the main ones is getting them wet inside. That is why dogs should be bathed with cotton balls in their ears. I guess antibiotic use could cause it. Ears are warm and moist, so yeast has a nice environment there.

| So, we went to the vet. It is most likely not a reaction to Otomax. It is a reaction to qtips. Lol...not exactly but I wouldn't be surprised. Cleaning them twice a day as instructed may have caused a sore (which the vet saw). So, no cleaning for 4 or 5 days and continue with the Otomax. If the sore doesn't go away within a week or two, she will need to be rechecked.
