| VCA Animal Hospital? I was talking to this lady in Petsmart that said VCA is not a very good place to take my dog and too expensive...has anyone else ever heard this or experienced anything with them? |

| There are lots of VCA's and I don't know how they are all related to each other. Ours is the closest emergency clinic and I've been there twice. It was a good experience. They charged us maybe 50% more than our vet would have when Sammy had a UTI after her surgery, but it was the weekend at like 10pm so I expected that. I would always go to my regular vet first because she is awesome, but our VCA is fine for an emergency/after hours. I have talked to people who have had good and bad experiences. I'm sure some of that has to do with the fact that they are an ER clinic and take emergencies first so if it's not an emergency you do have to wait a while. Our VCA also has specialists like oncologists and ophthalmologists.

| I have never had any problems with her the times I have been, but this is like the 3 rd person that told me they were too high...I wouldn't mind finding a Vet that was a little closer |

| YES THAT WAS THE FIRST PLACE I TOOK MY CHARLIE TO SEE AN ORTHOPEDIC SURGEON. THEY TOLD ME HIS SURGERY FOR LEGG PARTHESE DISEASE WAS GOING TO BE $5000 IF I WANTED TO DO ONE LEG AT A TIME AND $3000 TO DO THEM AT THE SAME TIME, I TOLD THEM MY CONCERNS ABOUT PUTTING HIM UNDER ANESTHESIA FOR SO LONG BECAUSE THEY WOULD BE WORKING ON BOTH LEGS AND THEY LOOKED ME RIGHT IN THE FACE AND SAID THERE IS NO GUARANTEE HE WILL BE OKAY UNDER ANESTHESIA THAT WAS JUST A RISK I WAS GOING TO HAVE TO TAKE THEN I SAID WELL WHAT IF HE DOES DIE, WILL YOU COMPENSATE ME FOR MY LOSS IN SOME WAY??? THEY SAID UNFORTUNATELY WHEN THINGS LIKE THAT HAPPEN THERE IS NO COMPENSATION SURGERIES ARE A RISK WE JUST HAVE TO TAKE AND THERE WAS NO WAY I WAS PAYING THEM $5000 TO KILL MY BABY. ON TOP OF ALL OF THAT I TOLD THE DOCTOR WOULD CHARLIE BE ON ANTIBIOTICS AFTER HIS SURGERY AND SHE TOLD ME NO THAT THEY GIVE HIM AN ANTIBIOTIC SHOT BEFORE AND AFTER SURGERY THAT TOO WAS A BIG RED FLAG FOR ME ESPECIALLY AFTER WHAT HAPPENED TO JOEY ANOTHER YT MEMBERS BABY WHO HAD THE SAME SURGERY BUT DIED OF A MASSIVE INFECTION. I DID HOWEVER FIND A DOCTOR WHO MADE ME FEEL BETTER ABOUT CHARLIE HAVING THIS SURGERY AND WHO JUST TOLD ME ALL THE RIGHT THINGS HE IS GOING TO BE ON ANTIBIOTICS FOR 10 DAYS AFTER THE SURGERY I WILL POST PICS HIS SURGERY IS NOW SCHEDULED FOR JULY 8, 2008 WHICH FALLS ON A WEEKEND SO I CAN WATCH MY BABY THE FIRST THREE DAYS AFTER HIS SURGERY, THEN MY COUSINS HUSBAND WHO IS A VET TECH WILL TAKE OVER WATCHING AND CARING FOR MY BABY WHILE i WORK. IT IS ALL COMING TOGETHER AND I AM SO HAPPY I'M NOT FORCED TO USE VCA ANIMAL HOSPITAL, ON TOP OF EVERYTHING ELSE VCA IS A TEACHING HOSPITAL ALOT OF THE DOCTORS THERE ARE INTERNS. |

| I used to work for VCA. They have great vets, but most of them move on rather quickly. They are like all major corporations, out for the almighty dollar. The vets are told to "upsell" their clients. Foods, shots, etc... I can't say anything bad about the way they help animals, but it bugged me to charge people for things their pets did not need. Our medical director was getting mad at the receptionists for not putting the right shots needed in the clients chart. Yelling and condescending the girls like they were too dumb to count weeks between shots. So I said is that why you administered 3 bordatellas on such and such's puppy. She shut right up. The vets get a percentage of every procedure they do. The corporation did not pass the money down to the other workers though. When it came time for raises, they would give a dollar amount for the entire hospital and it was up to the hospital director to dole it out. Let's put it this way, we got less than .05 per hour. Most of the vets I worked with were very caring and good, so vet skills were way up there. (But most of them left because of the "upsell")
