| Thanks for posting this discussion. I was a bit concerned about Polo. He is 9 months and weighs about 3.5lbs. He is just so small... I can feel his ribs and spine, though I can't see them...to the touch I feel like I'm not feeding him enough. When I had him on NV Raw food, I don't recall feeling his ribs as much, but now that I have him on dry kibble and I am feeling his rib and spine a bit more. I thought it was a little strange, but in reading it sounds like it might be the norm. |

| Small is good! Thin is in! It is so much better to have a dog who is a little thin then overweight. As long as your pup is otherwise healthy, don't worry about it! As I stated before, obesity is the leading killer for dogs. 1 in every 5 American dogs is obese, with even more then then that qualifying as overweight. I cannot emphasize enough times - PLEASE don't try and get your dog to add any pounds unless at the direct instruction of a vet. Please consult with your vet about this if you are worried. I am certain he will be the first to say - KEEP THEM THIN!!!

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I agree it's healthier to be a little underweight than overweight, but have you asked your vet about this? He can probably give you a pretty accurate number on what your puppy should weight. I always worry that if they are too thin, the very first illness can be disastrous.

Finding your pet's ideal weight is an extremely important issue and my instinct is to tell people do not try and have your puppy gain extra weight without consulting a vet or three My dogs are definitely skinny - they are raw eaters and raw feeding produces an extremely lean body. My neighbors and mother in law are constantly telling me my dogs are too skinny - so thats why I have such a vested interest in this thread. I am constantly defending my own dogs on this very issue! My vets say my dogs are the healthiest in their practice. My point is, as a culture, we have lost sight of what our pets are supposed to look like. Listen to your vet - not your heart telling you to feed your puppy more because he likes it.

| I do! my dog had the same issue- she's put on a LITTLE weight but overall just is healthier. I dont' feel her spine anymore. The Nature's Variety is awesome. Try it- i'm sure he'll like it. |
