| How do I get rid of fleas and ticks Bandit has been rolling around on the carpet like a maniac for some time now. I think he may have fleas He scratches a ton. I switched his food from RC to California Naturals (which helped a ton). I found a tick on him the other day He normally stays inside the apartment, but we do take him for walks everyday around the apartment complex....mostly on the grass and sidewalk, no woody areas. What is the best way to get rid of the ticks and fleas and prevent them from coming back? I have been using HARTZ, but it apparently isn't working. He is 11 months and 3 lbs. (He is a teacup...I know some of you hate that term, but yeah) I heard dawn works, but what about Frontline Plus or K9 Advantix?

| Yep, you do have a tiny. I also have an 11 yr. 3 lb. one but she is mentally challenged. As for fleas, have you actually see them? They're pretty easy to see. If he does have them they may also be in your carpet and you'll have to de-bug somehow. Someone else on YT may tell you what are safe products. I use Revolution. It is a flea and heartworm product. My 12 yr. Yorkie, Rosie, is allergic to everything else. I use the Puppy dose since she weights only 5 lbs. As for Hartz, I think in general the opinion is that it has very harsh chemicals in it and doesn't work well. Many dogs have allergic reactions to that brand. JMO, though. Good luck.

| Oh, you can also do a "search" to see if there has been a thread about this problem. Know there has been. The search button is on the upper right hand side.

Donating YT 10K Club Member | Do not use Hartz products. Google Hartz if you need to see proof of it's effects on animals. I use frontline on all three of mine. Works wonderfully on my three plus the kitty brothers.

| Hartz is not the best product to buy. It has killed some dogs in the past. Please buy Frontline and protect your baby and your house. Fleas are terrible and can cause, as you already see, such discomfort and even infection in your little one. Try bathing him in Dawn dishwashing detergent be careful not to get it in his eyes. This will kill the fleas but your carpet must be free as well or he will get them again then apply the frontline. |

| Here's a suggestion You can wash him with Ivory soap (the old fashioned bar, not the liquid) to rid him of any critters that are on him. I learned that from a rescue group and it really works!! I used to have a cocker years ago before all of these flea prevention products came out and i used to bathe her with the Ivory soap every week to keep them off of her. We also use the puppy dosage of the Revolution and have never had a problems with it on my little ones. They have never had a flea or tick. You will want to check the food for corn or wheat and make sure neither of those items are in there and also check your shampoo. Make sure it is designed for our babies so it doesn't dry out their hair. Good luck!! If the bugs get into your house, you will need to get all the eggs out of the carpet. Not an easy task!! Prevention is the best method as treatment is a nightmare!! |
