YorkieTalk Newbie! | hi i have two yorkies a male and hes a little over a year his name is duke. I also have a little girl named piper she is 5 months old. i take her to the vet tomarrow morning to see if she has ringworm. i am hoping she is just having a reaction to the ants in the yard. duke has ant bites but she has big red round circles and she is not really scratching them. my question is if she does have ringworm how long does it take to spread. Duke and her play al the time and he doesnt have them i just noticed the marks last night. Last edited by charmed71; 05-11-2009 at 09:16 PM. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Ringworm can last a very long time - esp. bc this fungus leaves spores around, so reinfection is very possible. This is why it's so important to treat w/ meds a FULL 8 weeks. Oral Diflucan seems to be the drug of choice right now for dogs. After about 6 weeks of treatment, you should do another fungal culture to be sure it's negative. Baths during the treatment period (and for a while after) should be once a week using a prescription antifungal shampoo on all dogs in the house.

| Please help!!!My poor Toby has ringworms. Hello! I am new to this site and have a copule of questions for owners who dealt with the same problems. My puppy is 4 months. When we bought him from the pet store told us he was checked and vet said he was fine, but unfortenately it wasn't true. Our vet told me he has ringworms. He's been on 4 different meds already :conofite, remicin oitment, neobacimyx and now a dip that smells like rotten eggs. My daughter and i already got the rigworm from him. My concern is that its not going away. Why my vet doesn't say anything about oral medicine? Please tell what i should do? |
