| Can we freeze small amounts of canned dog food? The breeder sent Becks home with Royal Canin kibble and Ceaser wet. I plan to give him a week or so to settle in, and then switch him to either Innova or Merricks. I am on day three of the wet Ceaser, and he has not even ate half of it. The Ceaser is cheap, so I don't mind throwing the rest of the container out...but when I change him over to a better brand, I will not want to waste it. I am wondering about freezing it into little daily servings...will this work? Also, wwyd...there is one feed store that carries good pet food...they carry Innova, but they do not carry Merricks...and they can only get Wellness in wet. I had really wanted to put him on Merricks, but I would have to order it. I am wondering if I should just feed Innova, since it is convenient, or, take the plunge and just get the Merricks through the mail. Tammie and Becks (sig line coming soon) |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I don't know about freezing it. Any of the foods you mentioned are good. I would probably go with one I can easily get like the Innova

| I portion out canned food by the teaspoon and freeze it. The vet had told me that it could be done. I take out so many portions at a time and when it thaws, it is still in the portion size. I only add a little to his food for flavor. I also add cooked veggies.

| I feed my puppy merrick's. A couple of months ago I started ordering it online, it saves me a special trip across town. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Sure can. You'll just have to see if it alters the taste at all - just be sure to really wrap it well to avoid any funky freezer taste, and that might help.

| I do freeze Kimchee's Merrick's canned food. I take out a portion (good for 3 days), then freeze the rest for later use. It works well so far, the only thing is I have to make sure I remember to defrost another portion before it runs out.

| I agree - yes, you can freeze both their wet and dry foods. I buy the Medi-Cal from our vet and find it is much easier to scoop out the tblsp I need for each of them, when the food is at room temp. I open a can to feed them their supper and then freeze the rest before it is open too long and I have to put it in the fridge! One can of the wet gives me 22 tblsps - I call them their puppy cookies b/c that's what they look like, spread out on the cookie sheet. One can gives me 11 days of frozen suppers. Their dry food is Go! Natural and it freezes very well, too. Since they each get 1/3 cup/day to free feed on, I scoop out enuf to fill one of the small Tupperware cereal containers and put the bag of what's left, in the freezer.
