| Anyone else scared to death about Neutering/Spaying??? I set Coopers appointment to be neutered in June, and I am absolutely terrified!!! Our vet will only do it if he is 4 lbs or more which is great, but I just have a very very uneasy feeling about him being put under. I get sick to my stomach thinking about it now and It's two months away!!!

| I understand how you feel!!!! I didnt have my first two spayed until I HAD to have it done at 10 years of age. I was soooooooo paranoid about loosing them under anesthesia that I just put it off. Plus the vets in Flagstaff were a joke at that time. They were great for large animals but bad for toys. Well, Amy had to be spayed at 10 years of age because of a prolapsed uterus and Samantha had to be spayed, also a 10 years, because of pyrometria. I remember taking them and crying the whole day. I was so worried. |

| I totally understand. I just finally took Topper in today and he is 1 1/2 years old. I kept putting off calling and scheduling. When I noticed he had a loose tooth I felt I couldn't wait any longer to have him put under so I scheduled both for the same time. Ended up he had 2 teeth that needed to be pulled in addition to the neuter and they were both baby teeth. I am glad that the loose tooth was just a baby tooth. But anyway I talked to the vets office and he is doing good awake and outside for a potty. They will be keeping hi overnight because I am working tonight and would not be home to watch him. So he will be home tomorrow morning and hopefully not to mad at mommy.

| I too, was terrified to get Feather spayed. I waited til she was a year old and 2 1/2 lbs. I also called no less than 10 vets to find one that met ALL my requirements. She made out fine but the fact remains dogs do still die under anesthesia, even with all the precautions. |

| I was scared too!! Here's what I posted on another thread about this: I got my 3 lb chihuahua, Bitsy and my 3 1/2 lb yorkie, Brooke spayed at the same time. I waited until Brooke was 1 yr and I felt like that was as big as she was going to get and Bitsy was 3 1/2 yrs old. I was very nervous about the surgery but I found a vet that has spayed rats and my girls are definatly bigger than rats!! My vet is at an animal hospital that allows you anywhere in the facility, so I was able to be in the operating room and I watched both surgeries. In fact, Brooke had to have some baby teeth removed also. I wasn't sure at first if I was going to be able to watch but I wanted to try. It was very interesting and I was able to be there for them when they came to and were in recovery. They came through really well. It is easier for them to do boys, just make sure that the vet is used to doing small animals and I am sure you will do fine. My vet didn't put any instruments into them, she only cut about a 1/2" opening that she could put her finger in and pull the organs out. Hope this helps, relax and everything will be O.k. for your little man!

| Completely Understandable I know what you mean. Pixel is the smallest dog I've ever had -- and my first Yorkie. She's just a little thing, 3 pounds at almost 7 months old, so I was really worried about her operation. I took her in for 8am (sooo hard to leave her; I actually cried when I got back into my car) and her vet did some blood tests etc. to be sure she could tolerate the anesthetic. Sure, it cost more, but my baby is worth it and I would suggest it to everyone. Anyway, I called at 1pm to see how she was; she'd done well in surgery and was sleeping off the drugs. I was able to pick her up at 4:30 that afternoon. Little thing was soooo glad to see me that she literally climbed out of the attendant's arms and into mine. She was very groggy and super sucky that night. Her stomach was upset from the drugs and we figured out, a day later, that she couldn't take the after-care prescription of metacam; poor little girl was lethargic and had a bad bout of diarrhea. I took her back to the vet and her prescription was changed to flagyl. It took another full day before her diarrhea calmed down. I kept pushing water and Pedialyte on her, afraid she'd get dehydrated. She was spayed on a Tuesday and was completely back to normal by Sunday. She did have a rough time, and I was very worried about her for those days. She definitely needed extra love and attention -- she literally spent nearly 3 days in my arms, feeling miserable, poor thing. I've never felt so guilty in all my life. But it really was worth it for her. It prevents so many medical problems in future. To look at her now, bouncing around, playing and wagging that cute little tail, you'd never know she'd been so sick.

| I am so nervous about Gracie getting spayed. She has an appointment in June for spay. She is only 7 months old now and weighs 2.5lbs, so I hope she gains weight before then...even though my vets say that weight is not an issue. She has to get some baby teeth pulled too...she has 2 rows of top teeth. |

| it's happening as i type! Kash is getting neutered today!!! and yes, i'm very very very (x infinity) nervous. i tried to take every precaution. i got his blood work done... and i made sure to request that the vet use ProPoFlo to induce him. it's much safer for small dogs. and then my vet uses isoflurane (a gas anethesia) to keep him sleeping... i hope i did everything right because i'd have a very hard time forgiving myself if something terrible happened during surgery. i'm on pins and needles waiting for them to call me to come get him...

| I remember being a little nervous about Lacy getting spayed but too bad....I kept myself busy that day until I picked her up to come home. A good physical exam and bloodwork beforehand will alert you to any underlying health problems...so that and having a vet familiar with toy breeds would make me feel pretty confident. It's always scary when our babies undergo anaesthesia, but most do just fine. Spaying and Neutering is way too important to not do
