| To dock or not to dock??? Anyone ever see a Yorkie with its full tail? Do they have to be docked? Is there a site to see pics of YT's with tails?

| The YTCA sets the standard for the Yorkshire Terrier in the USA and the standard calls for a tail docked to a medium length. I personally would not buy from a US or Canada breeder that did not dock tails. I very much prefer a properly docked tail on a yorkie.

| Biewers do not have docked tails because the lines originated in Germany where it is illegal to dock tails.

| Thank you for the pics. What a precious doll! I think she looks wonderful with her tail. If the dog isnt going to be shown then maybe it is ok to be natural.

| Thank you! I love her to death! My older yorkie has the docked tail and I love the look both ways. I how ever could NEVER be responsible for having a tail docked. My breeder chooses not to dock. I agree. They are born with tails... and standard or not I love my baby this way. Having her wage her tail at me is priceless....

YT 500 Club Member | Brooke, your baby is so cute. I love the tail! Ours was docked too short, and she has nothing but a stump. The groomer leaves longer hair on the tail, and she wags the hair and butt! I like the tail. It is much better for wagging!

| tough decision for sure When I was a breeder, I was looking for a show dog within my litters so I docked, but did not like the very thought of it. If I was to ever breed again, I think I would do the kind thing and leave the tails on. In every other country except for Canada, I believe it is illegal to dock tails and to crop ears. When it the USA going to ban this outdated procedure? There used to be a need for it when yorkies were bred specifically for hunting, not there is no need besides vanity.
