| Is Elvis too skinny? Elvis is now 17 weeks old. He weighs 3 lb 6 oz. His back is bony and his ribs can be easily felt. The vet said that he's had a growth spurt and that his weight will catch up. I free feed him Canidae All Stages and give him a carrot some days and a sweet potato duck treat some days too. What advice do you give as to his diet? Should I switch foods? The vet offered Royal Canin, which he ate for a little while and began itching, so I returned it. I've posted pics of him, but think that his fur does not properly show just how thin he is. Thanks in advance for any advice. PS. He eats approx. 1/2 cup daily of the Canidae as I have been measuring what is left from day to day.

| Parker made 5 months old yesterday. He looks to be the same lenght and height as Elvis, and he weighs 3 lbs 8 ozs. He also had a growth spurt......and it was in his lenght. Up until three weeks ago, he had a shorter lenght body and was butter ball. I feed him Artmeis morning and evening, 1/2 cup each serving. He also gets dried fruits , cooked skinless chicken breast and veg for treats. He also gets Grizzly Salmon Oil Supplement. My vet also said ,he will catch up to his growth spurt.

| he LOOKS fine but it is hard to tell with such a beautiful coat!!!! if you are concerned up the amount that you feed him by perhaps 1/4 c. If you notice he is starting to gain weight and is the size you would like, start cutting back. Does your vet think he is a good weight? i think the food you are feed is great quality and would not go back to Royal Canine. Perhaps a few extra treats too |

| Thats pretty much how Kaba looks. She eats as much as she wants and gets multiple small treats a day. I can definitely feel her ribs an backbone. I think they just have good metabolisms.

| Yorkies aren't meant to be chunky dogs, even though some choose that lifestyle He is still a growing pup, so I wouldn't be so worried about it.

| I appreciate all of your responses as they have helped to allay my worries. Like you all said, he's a growing puppy and I guess this is just part of the process.

| Yes he looks good in the pics...adorable in fact. He looks a lot like my Winston...who is 17 weeks also and weighs 3.1 pounds. The vet at his check thought his weight looked good...Winston is just a smaller frame she said. Winston also eats the Canidae and about the amount you said, with some days a little more.

| Ellie was very under weight (on a scale of 1-10, perfect is a 5 and she was a 2 or 3 ). I think what helped her gain some was steel cut oats. They are full of calories. Most of the time, skinnier dogs are at a good weight but the owner thinks they are too skinny, so I'd go with what your vet says. Ellie's vet said when she is hungry, let her eat. She is probably at a 3 or 4 now.
